In this book about the 1970s I have, they talk all about this in a part. Did you know a religious supply store was looted of all its bibles during the blackout? Man, people will steal anything that isn't nailed down when societal mores collapse.

I've read that part of the publicity campaign used the opening notes of Beethoven's 5th because it spells out V in Morse code. Dot dot dot dash.

I remember the blackout well: it was summer vacation, so I was allowed to stay up late and watch Charlie's Angels and Baretta, though I forget the order. One had just ended and then the lights went out, everywhere. Went to bed, still no electricity when I woke up the next morning. Fortunately things were quiet in the section of Queens I lived in (Whitestone).

According to legend, the Habsburg army went into a battle dressed in white tabards belted at the waist. The battle was so bloody that when it was over they took off their bloodstained tabards and the only white left on them was where the belts were.

July 24, 1897, Amelia Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansas.
IMO, her skill as an aviator was inflated by her publicists.
