I was pretty late to getting a smartphone, having only gotten one recently. The other day, someone called me 3-4 times consecutively while I was driving...if it had been my old phone I would have been able to flip it open and answer it without even looking, but no, with these smartphones you gotta use that touchscreen. Touchscreen also just sucks in general for dialing and whatnot. So yeah, smartphone is great at everything...except at being a phone.

I don't spend too much time on apps, but I happen to use a couple daily:
    Cortana
    Xbox Smartglass
    Nokia Smart Camera and Cinemagraph

Many smartphones feature a voice assistant (like Siri on iPhone and Cortana on Windows Phone--which is awesome btw). Cortana can read my texts aloud and listen for and send my replies, all without me so much as looking at the phone. Plus, nowadays most cars come equipped with Bluetooth compatibility for hands free communication while driving (ie. I can make calls or answer calls either by talking to the car or talking to Cortana).

Oh yeah, if Cortana and Siri count, then Google Now is one of mine too. All the time when I'm driving with my phone in my cupholder I'll just say "OK Google, call Bob" or "OK Google, text Jane 'running late, be there soon.'" Simple.

Smartphone voice assistants truly are awesome...when their voice recognition performs accurately anyway :p

...but if you do and can't actually swipe without looking, you have issues.
