    I had a dream last night that I went and saw it. It was absolutely terrible. Gandalf was floating around the whole time throwing Swedish Fish at the dwarves while laughing, Samuel L. Jackson was the voice of Smaug, and Arnold Schwarzenegger played Bilbo for some reason. And all of the battle scenes were ridiculously bloody in a Tarantinoesque fashion while the soundtrack was performed by the Bee Gees. Oh and apparently Jackson decided to dub Thorin's voice, so his lips never matched to what he was saying.

    I have no idea what the hell my dream could signify.

    What is the point of doing motion capture with a human for use on a non-humanoid creature? There motions aren't anything alike, so why would you model anything on them? Wouldn't modeling based off reptiles of some sort be a more useful exercise? You may as well motion capture Pacific salmon for use on the CGI giant eagles that will doubtless save the heroes a half dozen times in the upcoming film when they could've just helped from the beginning and obviated at least half the time onscreen.

    Because they get a bit more of the way the actor works physically, which they can incorporate as they wish, and because Benedict Cumberbatch sacked them to do it.
