Who here finds that Azog is pretty awesome?

 

So, what are the chances that Tauriel is killed by Thorin or one of the Dwarves, to set off the Battle of Five Armies?

 

Wasn't Tauriel supposed to have some sort of romantic fling with Thorin? Or did I dream up that rumor?

(Sort of dreading the inevitable Romeo-and-Juliet subplot implied there...)

 

I thought Tauriel was Legolas's fiancé?

 

I'd heard that Kili would be the one star-struck Dwarf, but I might be mistaken...

As if Tolkien's legendarium wasn't chock-full of impossible romances already. And as if the audience would lose interest without a romantic subplot. Oh, well! We'll soon know what's what when the time comes and we're watching the movie.

Realizing I knew next to nothing about Tauriel, I decided to e-stalk look her up online.

I saw this quote crop up on several sites:

Well now that's just plain awkward.

 

And that's just plain wrong, as Thranduil is supposed to have lived the whole of the Second and Third Ages, and Legolas, the Third Age himself. Also, according to the LOTR companion book, they said that Legolas was 2600 years old (give or take a few), so unless they retcon it, I don't see how the above quote is compatible.

Well this just keeps getting better and better.

I'm just going to move the decimal place up two notches and deal with it from there.

 

So my roommate and I drank a lot of wine last night, and I gave her the entire backstory of Thranduil and why Peter Jackson better not make him a jerk.

If I recall correctly, some off it included about how Thrandy was like the first person to offer assistance to Esgaroth after Smaug destroyed it, but "he totally didn't help when Smaug took Erebor because **** that, it's a goddamn dragon."

Edit: As for Evangaline's quote, she's guestimating. She was kinda in the ballpark for Legolas, but Thrandy's like 6000.
