Too true, forgot about the other Ian.

If your name is Ian you're employable.

My name's not Ian, so I guess I'm not employable. I'll tell my boss so I can go home for the rest of the day.

I hope this will be a long film like LotR, either just a long film or a 'theatrical version' and an 'extended version'.

I really couldn't care who directs it. In fact, I'd die much happier if noone did and they just let books be books.

A 4-hour long dramatised Hobbit? [face_worried] With fictional women characters???

A LotR prequel? So they're just going to make up stuff? Trust me, before Fellowship picked up, wich the exception of a few sparse episodes (Aragorn captures Gollum in Mirkwood!) NOTHING was going on. Again, unless they just make stuff up. Which brings it to the level of fanfic. Or payfic.

grrrr upon the insatiable demand for cheap thrills.

Eh, the Hobbit is overrated, The LOTR trilogy is the better story.

I'd certainly like PJ to direct the Hobbit. He has the vision and he could create a continuity with the LotR films that any other director would struggle with. I'll wait to celebrate until I hear this from a reputable source though. :)

Finally! I'll definitely have to see this! I've always been curious about how they'd do Mirkwood.

They may have to call Orlando back for Legolas just because you see the king of Mirkwood and his son the prince, I think[face_thinking].
Its been a few years since I've read the Hobbit.

Thranduil has several sons, IIRC. But Legolas would only be a background character since he has no major significance in the story.

and what we learned from all this is if you do a few good movies, then a huge stinker (yah king kong) you can always go back and hump the corpse of your former glory.

Even so he probably won't be focused on much, if at all.

I don't see how they can break up the story into two movies.

I was at Publix (anyone not on the East Coast will probably have no clue what store this is) this weekend and saw the Entertainment Weekly article on this. It looks exciting.

Saul Zaentz owns the rights to the books? Was his name on Lord of the Rings? I know the producers of the trilgy were Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Barry M. Osbourne. Was Zaentz an exec. producer or something?

I really hope this works out. I enjoyed reading The Hobbit more than Lord of the Rings, and I am particularly curious about how they will bring various things to life. But I wish people would stop calling The Hobbit a Prequel.

With the films, it technically is a prequel.

Could the other film they keep mentioning possibly be The Simarillion? (I'm sure I spelled that wrong)

I have a copy, I need to eventually read it...[face_blush]

I never really cared for The Hobbit. I liked the LotR trilogy much more. Still, PJ is really the only one who should direct it, IMO. He obviously cares about the LotR series and I thought he did a good job with them.
