With the trailer and that image, anyone think they'll pull a Gandalf "death" but resurrection trick again? Maybe with the provision that "Okay, NEXT time you die you can only come back ONE MORE TIME. I mean it! And you gotta dress in white."

I think that's clearly Galadriel and the rest of the White Council rescuing an injured Gandalf from Dol Guldur.

Does your model hold any capacity for abstract reasoning?

Maybe it's obvious, but this looks like it probably presents the story chronologically, going from left to right.

Hobbit 3 has a good chance of dethroning Transformers 4 as the worst, and the most successful, movie of 2014.

Meh. I'm simple in my tastes. While I enjoy and appreciate good films, I can also sit back and enjoy stuff that isn't too good when you really think about it. When you really think about it, LOTR aren't nearly the great amazing films people make them out to be all the time. There's a bunch of factors that tie into that view, but the films actually being that good is not a huge factor.

When it comes down to it, the Hobbit films aren't really that much worse- there are just different factors that color most people's view of them. "It's been done. Jackson's just doing it for the money. Should have been one/two movie(s)" plus external stuff like the revolutionary aura LOTR had. It's not too disimilar a phenomenon as what happened when the SW prequels came out.

I like the Hobbit films, not as good as LOTR of course. There are many issues I have with DOS that will probably go into the next one but it's much better than the likes of the other CGI garbage these days. I have seen a lot of comparisons of Peter Jackson to George Lucas, but to me these Middle-Earth "prequels" are much better in almost every way than the Star Wars prequels.

It certainly won't be the worst film of 2014, which has already given us the likes of Blended and Think Like A Man Too.

what is a more egregious example of reliance on mediocre CGI than these films?

is sharknado an adaptation of a timeless work of children's literature, modified and expanded to suit the dense, sprawling world of its more somber, mythical younger sibling?
