Yes Saul Zaentz's name was on the trilogy. Look in the credits and you will find it. And there were way more producers than just those three. Peter and Fran were Executive Producers and Barrie was a Producer. I believe Harvey Weinstein was also an Executive Producer as well. Between Executive Producers, Producers and Associate Producers, I bet there were 12 producers on that trilogy.

YES! I was just thinking about this on Saturday, actually. I enjoyed the Hobbit way more than the Lord of the Rings as books, and Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy was awesome! I can't wait

I don't see how it would be possible to make a Silmarillion film, unless they took out one specific story and turned it into a feature. The entire Silmarillion though...no way.

I am glad The Hobbit might be made though, and if somebody is to do it it really should be Peter Jackson.

Beren and LĂșthien would make a good movie.

Probably, but I don't know how much of a success it would be. Everybody knows what Lord of the Rings is. Everybody knows what the Hobbit is. How many people are going to have ever heard of Beren and Luthien? And how many people are going to be that interested in a middle earth movie that doesn't involve any of the other characters they know from the films, besides an earlier verison of Sauron? It's too risky a project for a studio to finance, I'd imagine. Maybe if they did it animated or something and released it on DVD.

The rumor is that the other film will bridge The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. It's possible that this film wil focus on Gandalf and Aragprn hunting Gollum, or maybe the Treason of Isnegard.

you'd have to have a really good writer to make a story like beren and luthien or any of the stories from the silmarillion work on film, because in the book they are told in a very matter-of-fact way and with very broad strokes.

I don't know that are matter of fact, but the kind language that he uses is clearly different fron Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit.

matter of fact is probably the wrong phrase, but the stories have the feel of rough sketches that could have been expanded into larger, greater, more detailed works if tolkien had had time. especially the tale of beren and luthien.

The article explains what the focus of a possible 2nd movie would be.

I diagree. One of the Apendices of ROTK is a VERY extensive timeline of the War of the Ring. There is more than enough material for a second film in between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

more than enough material to fill two hours maybe, but not to make a particularly compelling film.

Aragorn and Arwen's story from the appendices would probably make it into the second film.

Is anyone really looking forward to The Hobbit? The LOTR movies have enough references to the Hobbit.

There is so much that wasn't covered so many amazing sights and fantastic moments that fans are dying to see them brought to life. Personally I can't wait to see a whole group of dwarves and the battle of the five armies. :D

What, a couple of scenes with Bilbo and Gollum?

There was a little more to the story than just that.

The dragon firework Merry and Pippin set off was supposed to be what Smaug looked like.
