Tolkien said something like that years ago.

Not what I meant. I meant that what Jello said was tinkering with LotR, and therefore not tinkering with a LATER author's prose because he's butchering Tolkien's "You... cannot... pass!"
Tolkien was dead before stover published a book.

I'm fairly certain I had Stover in mind, seeing as I've never read LotR.

I know, but it's not butchering Stover.
    I'm helping you, Jello!

Edit: Have you seen the movies, then?

I have indeed, but I'm scarcely familiar with them. I know the scene being referenced, but I really was just misquoting Stover though. :p

The movie actually uses that exact line, though. I assumed it was a Tolkien reference at first, then remembered the scene in question. Traitor was not my favorite book.

Well, it's possible it had infested my brain without my knowing it, but I really have only seen the films once. I couldn't even tell you which one it came from :p

Whoa whoa whoa...you're a fantasy-and-sci-fi-loving aristocratic classicist monarchist medievalist...and you've never read Tolkien? My dear sir, remedy this deficiency at the earliest available opportunity. Tolle lege, frater! Deus te imperat ut haec biblia optima celerrime legas! Nunc! Nunc! Deus vult!

    (ahem)

Pardon me. You may now resume your regularly scheduled thread.

biblia? What is this, Greek? :p I'll allow the poetic license, I guess, because it goes along with all the superlatives. [face_laugh] Nicely done :p I guess everyone knows Latin is the way to my heart :p

suppose hos libros optimos doesn't have the same ring to it anyway

The one where we learn that no one can betray anyone because everybody is lying because everyone is dead because there is no dark side, no Dark Side, and it is irrelevant that Nyax died there, yes, right there, all the while Jacen gets Stockholm Syndrome bad, and Nom Anor looks cool in comparison to Tsavong Lah (again).

Jacen is tortured by an incomprehensible bird-woman in an ultimately successful effort to teach him how to love.

So I'm torn. Jello and Todd are tied at twelve, followed by Hav at ten. Jello and Todd are clever, but don't synopsize the book even remotely. Here's my thinking:

Between A) not actually describing the book, B) accidentally derailing the thread and C) not even getting the quote right, Jello is disqualified. I'm officially endorsing Hav, but I'll give it one more day - If Todd is still winning tomorrow night, so be it.

Yeah but a summary expressed as an imperative uniquely describes the book in this particular instance. Otherwise it wouldn't have been so popular. :p
