Damn right they do. The Fire Rings of Fornax are an EU creation that predate the original Star Wars film.

Holy crap, that was a long one. You know I'm swamped with Eleven-ThirtyEight stuff then OSOL goes two weeks without a new round. Anyway, instantdeath wins.

    No.

I'm a fan and to varying degrees an apologist for both Dark Empire and The Force Unleashed and their sequels.

I like individual scenes, but as a full package it's pretty awful. I have a soft spot for Dark Empire I, though. The story is fun and poignant enough for me to ignore the truly groan worthy dialogue.

The first page of Dark Empire 2 when the Star Destroyers (including the Avenger!!) drop out of hyperspace in orbit of Balmorra is one of my favourite comic scenes ever! I very much liked Operation Shadow Hand (while it lasted)...

The big difference from DE 1 is that Palpatine is surrouned by his Dark Side Elite and people like Umak Leth.
The movies clearly show Emperor Palpatine lets other do his bidding. I think DE 2 managed to show that very well.

I liked the opening battle a lot, with all those droids fighting (years before we got the roger-roger antics of the prequels). As for my entry-

Palpatine returning from the dead is a lot less impressive the second time, as is just about everything else in this unnecessary sequel.

Palpatine shows that he has learned some tricks from his former apprenticed Dooku by returning again, and again, like a Hammer Horror Dracula

Veers was the very model of a modern major-general,
perfector of the walker found in many a Kenner haul,
but though Julian Glover and Guy Siner (he of the 'little tank')
played him it could not save Max from an insulting loss of rank:
in a brief break from aping its predecessors' every trope
Dark Empire II sent now-Captain Veers off on a forlorn hope -
yet though said comic brought Maximillian to an unworthy end
it balanced books by showing his son Zev rescued by Salla Zend;1

having first lost his legs to a kamikaze Klivian,
thereafter got no respect (much like a masterminding Snivvian),
and his First Film Guy Killed In Book spot challenged by Janson, you all
might spare a moment's thought for an unhappy major-general.2

Yeah, I think it's safe to call this one for Parnesius ...though that thing's gonna be hell to format.

After being poetically betrayed and killed by his apprentice (via reactor shaft) and perhaps equally poetically by his own Force storm power, Palpatine is finally permanently killed by Han Solo's blaster, thus making his final death as ignoble as Greedo's.
