Havac wins, with little competition beyond...whatever the hell Nick's was.

    Shield of Lies.

Somehow this will all make sense even though this book consists of three incomplete short stories.

Two novellas that go nowhere (Luke's and Lando's) and the awesome novella of Leia struggling with her underlings to take the fight to the Yevetha

To better highlight how little each storyline has to do with the others, they are broken up into discrete segments in which Lando has further droid-and-cyborg adventures on a ghost ship, Luke continues to get duped in the most boring manner possible but at least takes sexual advantage of a distraught woman so we have something to talk about, and Etahn A'baht presides over a badass display of Fleet Junkie porn and also Leia and politics and that whole deal and holy crap did the bad guy just capture Han and did he just make us feel that a main character is legitimately threatened?

The cover has the Millennium Falcon on it and the main characters' portraits ripped straight from the OT like all Bantam novels of this era and that's really all I remember about this novel since I read it in elementary school (sorry Havac, I promise I'll reread it and like it at some point).

Lando and Lobot are starving, Han is held prisoner, Leia has to watch as Han is severely beaten and Luke satisfies his needs.

The shield is a lie, there is no shield, there isn't much of anything else either, especially for Lando and Lobot and the droids and Luke, unless you're a fan of ships beyond just the normal X-wing and TIE Fighter (and yes, other starfighters exist, despite unoriginal naming schemes later on that just add XJ to X-wing, this book has K-wings, reminding us that there are still 20 more letters to combine with -wing, or at least were at the time this book was published).

Shield of Lies is just more of the same, there's not much more to say after summarizing Before the Storm. "More of the same" could be the summary for Shield of Lies.

Tyrant's Test might give people a little more to work with.

Yeah, this thread was dead to me last night. DarthRelaxus ekes this one out, though I'm hoping for a little more competition this time. And I've got a good one queued up for the next round.

    Tyrant's Test.

Its a shame, I would have done one for The Last Command and the Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy, but I was currently rereading it at the time and plan on rereading the Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy soon. I only just finished The Last Command and started on Isard's Revenge today. I am however going to provide one for Tyrant's Test as follows.

Three storylines coalesce into a massive final battle, in a way that spawns one of the greatest mysteries of all time, the fate of the Intimidator.

Lando saves a species, Luke discovers some sort of weird feminist pseudo-Force cult instead of his mom and figures out how to get involved in the other plots, we get the most genuinely menacing villain scene ever, Etahn A'baht kicks the Yevetha's ass, Chewbacca reaches his moment of ultimate literary triumph, and the Imperials save the day.

Lando finally gets to come off his zero-g diet, the New Republic pulls the ultimate Jedi mind trick, and the bad guy is still trying to figure out how to drop out of hyperspace.

I was afraid this would go unsaid while I was away, but then I remembered that Barriss_Coffee has been in this business much longer than I.

Awesome New Republic fleet action beats Yevetha's fleet action, Luke leaves the new Force-users unsatisfied cos they don't have his mom and becomes tangled up in every plot line ever to exist in this trilogy, and Lando saves an ancient race

The book that proves Michael P. Kube-McDowell was totally just winging it, without a clear idea how to resolve all those amazing storylines.
