He was one of the better characters in this movie, a little corny but OK. Issac was one of the only actors confirmed for the next movie for like a year.

I am so glad he survived. I can't believe I thought he would have been nothing before seeing the film. He actually ended up being my 3rd favorite character from the film right behind BB8 and Rey.

very glad JJ was just a director and is not the "show runner" or creative architect, then.

Poe was a great character with lots of room for growth. Glad they didn't kill him off.

I think Han's death would have completely overshadowed Poe's death so I am happy he survived. It would just have been gratuitous to kill him off.

Best actor in the film. Go watch Ex Machina and A Most Violent Year. Should have gotten more screentime.

Makes sense he's not really in the movie all that much
I think he probably was gonna die in the tie crash for real but the way the movie did it worked okay they don't really explain how Poe survived but that's okay

I'm sure he probably used an ejector seat or something.

Definitely the right choice to keep him alive, he is a great character portrayed by a great actor, and I look forward to seeing him again in the next film(s).

I'd love the dynamic duo to become a power trio, but in all fairness, Poe did blow up Starkiller base. As they say in Brooklyn, "That's not nothing."

Poe is definitely the biggest surprise of the film for me. I loved the other characters, but I expected too. I didn't think I'd love Poe nearly as much as I did. I'm glad he's not dead!

As far as Alec, he's not even close to being just "the old guy in Star Wars" to me. Star Wars was the only film of his I saw until recently, but Obi-Wan has ALWAYS been a massive deal to me. It's sad that he couldn't respect that.

I liked the character but that has to be one of the most ridiculous miraculous survivals in a SW film since they didn't show it or even bother to explain it.
Finn's like "I thought you were dead!"
    Then Poe's like "Nope."
    On to the next scene.

He hated SW after the years and years of pestering from SW fans. It was Lucas' decision to kill him off and Guiness didn't like the change at the time.

What are you talking about? Finn survived it so why couldn't Poe? Finn just thought Poe was still inside because he saw his jacket and couldn't get inside due to the fire.
The resistance is an underground movement with connections throughout that region around Jakku. That's where he started the film after all.

Well, I guess that explains why he wasn't on much. I'm hoping this means there's more for him in the sequels though. If what they wanted to extend his role for wasn't in this movie - and I don't think it was considering his small role after the opening - I'm going to assume it's about the character's future.

Isaac's character could have really just been wallpaper. But Isaac brought his all to the role. You could tell. He ate that up.

He made expositionary info dumps a joy to watch.

    That's great acting.

Really interesting to hear this. In some ways it makes sense, as Poe doesn't really get a big "I survived" reveal, he just kinda shows back up, but I'm really glad he will be around for the next movie.

He's a really interesting and likable character, I would love to see him team up with Finn again, it was great how they played off each other. I also will be interested to see how he interacts with Rey in the future. I'm glad we get the chance to possibly see that now. Also, Oscar Isaac brought a lot of energy to this role; I enjoyed his performance.

If anything, Poe's role is more like Leia's (the true believer in the cause), while Finn's role is more like Han's (the one who wanted to run away, but ends up coming back).

Yes, Poe is the true believer. He is incorruptible.
