NOTE: In the years that those first three won, the award was split between dramatic scores and musical/comedy scores. I've omitted those who won the latter, as those scores are more obscure.

I'm going for The Fellowship of the Ring. I haven't heard some of the lesser-known scores, but of those I have heard it is my favourite. I hear that "Frida" is exceptional, and of course "Crouching Tiger?" is a landmark score. How "Brokeback Mountain" won is still a mystery to me, when up against so many good scores. And I loved the film, too!

It's a tough call for me between Fellowship and Crouching Tiger. But Fellowship I liked better.

    Return of the King

I love the Rohan theme. I love the the part when the Rohirrim charge into the Pelennor fields, the music always gives me goosbumps. It also has a nice mixture of the two previous scores.

The English Patient - it's just an elegant, haunting score - one of my all time favs

Though I still love FotR, and The Red Violin is a brilliant little gem.

FOTR - Definitely in my top 5, overall, in the past 10 years.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Howard Shore

Of course almost all of the themes were introduced in The Fellowship of the Ring, but I think they were just a little bit better in The Return of the King.
