    And Faiz,
Next time remember to stretch a little before the game begins... helps with the sore muscles, and also helps to prevent injury... LOL! :p

Here's an interesting article from the May 2003 issue of Paintball Sports International... it's a report on one of those scenario games, and it makes this thread less off-topic in my opinion... LOL! :p

    DMZ PURSUIT GAMES
2nd Annual "Rescue on Endor" BIG GAME

Timeline: (Just before the events in ROTJ).

The Rebel Alliance has learned of the creation of a second larger and more powerful Death Star. Fearing that this new threat may irrevocably turn the galaxy's conflict to the Empire's favour, Mon Mothma has agreed that the battle station must be located and completely destroyed. The Rebels have sent out their best pilots to scour the galaxy in the hopes of locating the new Death Star. Only a pilot from Blue Squadron has failed to report in. Believing that the Blue member may have fallen into an Imperial trap, rebel forces have organised a rescue mission and dispatched it to the fighter's destination: the Endor system. But the Emperor has other plans for the missing pilot. All bounty hunters in the area have been put on notice; capture the downed Rebel for the glory of the Empire and a substantial cash reward.

And so it was that the Star Wars saga was rekindled anew on Sunday, June 23, 2002. Players from all over Southern Ontario and the United States came to play in one of DMZ's biggest scenario games. DMZ is located in Thorold, Ontario. The field is only 30 minutes away from the Buffalo, New York border and only one hour from Toronto. The sun was out the whole day with not a cloud in the sky: a perfect day to find a downed Rebel pilot with each side looking. The 2 teams were divided up in the staging area at the beginning of the day at 9:00am. The orange team, or "the Rebel Alliance," consisted of a mixed lot of players, most with their own equipment, some renting. The yellow team, or "the Imperial Forces," consisted of the same number of players with the addition of 5 DMZ workers wearing Imperial Biker Scout uniforms. These special troopers were given control of the shield generator base at the beginning of the game.

Soon enough, the 2 teams were walked out to their flag stations in the forest and awaited the signal for game on. At 10:00am, th air horn sounded and the 2nd annual DMZ "Rescue on Endor" scenario began. Early on, each side laid out a defensive perimeter around their respective bases as holding a main base flag station for one hour was worth 20 points. The biker scouts also took up protective positions around the shield generator base (also worth 20 points). There were other neutral flag stations to be captured through the course of the day that were worth 10 points each. Among the miscellaneous flag stations was the downed Rebel fighter pilot. If the Rebels could get him back to a safe house (in the 12 building village) and hold him there for pick up, they would gain 100 points. If the Imperials caught him, however, the pilot would find himself escorted back to the shield generator base for interrogation, yielding the 100 points for the Empire.

If that were not enough to contend with, Boba Fett, his bounty hunter clan, and his starship (Slave I) represented another menacing force on the paintball field. Fett's base was just outside of the village, and it was here he had stored his prized possession, Han Solo, frozen in carbonite. If any team could defeat the bounty hunters and get Captain Solo back to their home flag station, that team would add 200 points to their tally. Other points were awarded as follows: Rebel/Imperial troops (eliminated) were worth 1 point each, Rebel/Imperial Captains: 3 points, Rebel/Imperial Generals: 5 points, Imperial Biker Scouts: 5 points and any bounty hunter was worth 5 points.

Additional points could be accumulated by means of recovering one of several point cards scattered throughout the forest. Whoever found one could either win 20 points for his/her team or deduct 20 points from the opponents. There were also special prize cards distributed. The motivation for locating these cards was simple; find it, bring it in, and you cou

Alright, as promised, here's the rest of that article.....

The Imperials captured the Rebel pilot in the first hour of the game. They detained him at the shield generator base for most of the day. When he reached the generator, he was removed of his PGP pistol and held in a containment area. As the morning wore on, the Imperial Biker Scouts got lazy and missed the Rebel pilot slipping out of the containment area, grabbing a RAS Intruder marker and wasting 4 Imperial troops and an Imperial General. The pilot then grabbed the flag and switched it to the Rebel Alliance colours before being tackled down to the ground and dragged back to containment. Undeterred as the Biker Scouts held him at gunpoint, the Rebel slipped his hand into his flight suit and pulled out a paint grenade, eliminating a Scout and, unfortunately, heavily dousing a nearby ref. He then bolted out of the base and ran for the orange lines. He was soon picked up by the Alliance and held in the safe house in the village.

Meanwhile, the Rebels had tried on several desperate occasions to free Captain Solo from the grasp of the bounty hunters, but the clan held their ground. Only in the last hour of the game did the Rebels break through and pick up the frozen Captain Solo. They ran him back to their home base and cashed in on 200 points for the rescue. Soon enough, however, all the scores were totalled at the 4pm stand down and the Imperial Forces had beaten the Rebel Alliance with just over 100 points seperating the team tallies.

The players were called back to the staging area and Jerry Munsie, owner of DMZ, thanked all for coming out and having a fun and safe time. He also thanked his refs and his other helpers. Jerry then went on to give out the draw prizes and the grand prize of either a $600 RAS Intruder ATX gun and goggle package or a $400 gift certificate to his pro shop, player's choice. All agreed this was a nice cap to a very successful scenario outing. In the end, the Empire had won this battle, but we all know who won the war. So until next time, may the force be with you!

    That's it, folks!
    Pretty cool, eh?? ;)

    Hey TK-625,

How many types of Paintball games are there out there, and what are they exactly?

I know the kind of game that we play here in Singapore at OCC is very different from the scenario game described in the article above, so care to fill us in here??

Also, just for knowledge's sake, what kinds of gear/equipment would a pro paintball player be wearing/carrying on the field?
What's the proper gear for a pro paintball player?

I already know that one would be wearing a helmet/visor, jersey, gloves, shin guards and carrying a marker... anything else??

    Hi Jean,

Not a problem, let's answer your questions in sequence shall we? ;)

How many types of Paintball games are there out there, and what are they exactly?

Depends on what kind of games you're asking about. Basically there are 2 major groups: Scenario Games and Competition Games.

Scenario Games are games that have themes involved, be it from the Movies or a Historical Event. These can last from 1 to about 3 days. With props, vechicles, costumes, exotic weaponary, pre and post party bashes, BBQs, live bands etc...

Competition Games are just that, competition games. There are always a Vendor tent where you can pick up the latest gear, have your marker upgraded, fine tuned or fixed. There are Hyperball, SuPaBall type fields. These games are usually round robin type events with a game lasting as fast as under a minute. Team types are usually; 10 man, 5 man and 3 man events.

Also, just for knowledge's sake, what kinds of gear/equipment would a pro paintball player be wearing/carrying on the field? What's the proper gear for a pro paintball player?

Standard Equipment of a Pro Player:
    1. Headgear/Head Protection System
    2. Jerseys
    3. Gloves
    4. Pants
    5. Cleats/Shoes
    6. Protective Gear/Knee Padz
    7. Pod Harness
    8. Spare Pods
    9. Squeegee
    10. Speed Timer
    11. Marker Spare Parts
    12. Backup Marker
    13. Tool Box

More often than not, hardcore players have more than on set. Usually a backup set just in case.

If you like, LMK and I'll send you a pic of my personal gear.

    Hope this helps.

    Stay safe.

It's a day late but hey, reality does bite every now and then. Anyways, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Paintball!

FYI, the very first game of paintball was played in June, 1981, near Henniker, New Hampshire. Three men led the way: Hayes Noel, Charles Gaines, and Bob Gurnsey.

It was Gurnsey, honored as the Father of Paintball, who then founded the National Survival Game company, taking the reins, driving paintball forward on its astounding path to success. Thank you, Bob Gurnsey sir! 'Sharp Salute!'

    Stay safe,

    Tim.

Thanks for that bit of trivia, TK-625! :)
...so Paintball is a Gemini, eh??
    That figures, LOL! ;)

Hmmm, I wonder what kind of equipment they played with though...??
I'm sure it's not as fancy as it would be today... hehheh! :p

Kinda like the early days of skateboarding when they had these decks that look nothing like the finely crafted ones we have today, or the wooden lacrosse sticks before the days of plastic and metal.....

...speaking of which, does anyone here have any idea where I can get lacrosse equipment here in Singapore, other than what you might be able to find at the Singapore American School??

I'm looking into possibly getting myself another lacrosse stick, and perhaps a few more little rubber lacrosse balls... am trying to convince my sis to play it with me... LOL! :p

They did the same thing for Behind Enemy Lines last year.

Pretty much a controlled paint event. Gift bags are kinda sad but other than that, pretty okay.

Looks like you're gonna be flying solo on this dude, I gotta handle the WOMAD event at Fort Canning Park. Sorry.

    Good luck & stay safe.
