Oh great, on Bakura at the end of the season for Truce Day. Might as well chalk up the loss right now.

I start the season with three straight home games and then follow that up with three straight on the road. I love it.

LFL announcement that some of you will barely understand :

As you may know, since the inception of the LFL, I have used a program that I wrote myself to generate all LFL scores. I wrote this program in the Lua programming language, because at the time that was the only language I was familiar with. However, Lua is a very basic language that is not well-suited for this type of application. In particular for our application, its random number generator function is not very good. In addition, I was a beginner at programming when I wrote the beast in the spring of 2013, and it showed in the code, with bad programming practices everywhere. Last offseason I cut that program down to its bare essence and made some improvements, leaving me with 188 lines of code instead of over 1,000. However, in looking at it a few days ago, I decided that even that needed a complete rewrite from the ground up.

So I spent four hours tonight rewriting the simplegenerator in Python, which is a much more robust language with a much better random number generator. The added features Python provides that Lua doesn't enabled me to simplify lots of code, while completely rewriting some area; in particular, the calculation of shootout scores went from a complicated and difficult-to-follow function in the Lua version to a far simpler and easier-to-understand (for me, anyway) object-oriented approach in Python. The result is that the Python version is 14 lines shorter and almost 700 bytes smaller. It will also be easier to make small improvements to the Python version.

If anyone cares, here is the source code: original Lua program used from 273 to 278 (and the data file that went with it); simple Lua version used in 279; and new Python version that, pending further improvements, will be used in 280.

Layman's summary: The program used to generate LFL scores has been rewritten from the ground up in a better programming language with a much better random number generator. So if your LFL team suddenly gets a lot worse, blame the people at https://www.python.org/.
