[blockquote]"Who are you? You disturb the peace of these animals?"

The spirit slowly turned in place to face the young man. He was armed, but not threatening. She knew him, of course. All in the forest did. She stared in his direction for a long time. Humans did not appreciate stillness and silence - she reflected on this, noting that the young man was shifting uncomfortably, his eyes darting to and fro in the darkness. Slowly - very, very, very slowly - a smile crept up on the spirit's face.

Suddenly, she flamed amazement...

[image=http://exoteric.roach.org/bg/extra/iphone/flame-spirit-i.jpg]

...before extinguishing herself. The smile remained on her face, and she laughed at the mortal's reaction. Finally, she spoke. "Hamlet, is it?" The voice was like three harmonizing. "I disturb no peace, but I fear I know who does." She reached up and lifted the beak of her helmet on its hinges, revealing her beautiful face. "I am Ariel."[/blockquote]

Hamlet, In the Forest

I want to kill it, it is a monster.

No, I see that it is a woman, but not a woman at all at the same. I drop my sword as the flames died down, in awe, but my lust to kill, my insatiable crazy ripping up from my bowels corrupting my heart and mind make me pick it back up. I hate this thing, but have no reason to. I will destroy it.

I will do no such thing!

I reach up and grab my head, my appearance, I can tell, is growing maniac. The madness approaches. I ask, "Ariel, who disturbs the peace of this Forest? I want...I want to kill it, bite it, devour it." No I do not want to do any of those things, but I say them.

I say them because I meant them. I am a murderer.

I am not, but I have killed before. I am not a bad man.

No, I am a bad beast. Seeking other beasts to devour them and ease my mind.

Pain.

There were few things Ariel could abide less than pain, than the suffering of others, and this Hamlet was in pain. His mind was fighting itself, and he would destroy himself, racked as he was from within like the torments of Sycorax when she had imprisoned the airy spirit in a tree. From a pouch amidst her armor, the spirit produced a flute, and she began to play.

It was sad, and it was beautiful, and it made Hamlet feel safe.

He would notice, no doubt, that the ferns in the clearing looked soft, that the earth was inviting and warm, and that his eyelids were too heavy to lift.

The knight gave no further response, and silence fell between them as they continued to make their way along the shoreline. As they topped a rise, Goneril could see in the distance the first true sign of human society she had yet seen in this land. Watchtowers, windmills, and a few small villages dotted the plain, sharing the landscape with large stretches of farmland.

As much as it was a relief to see that there were other people here, Goneril had to wonder what good it would do them, with Sir Hal so convinced that the local population was hostile. ?It would appear we have found civilization,? she remarked, ?but whether this is an improvement of our situation, I suppose, remains to be seen.?

The Lands

Indeed there was life in these strange lands. "Indeed. I´d say we begin with a farmhouse. One as isolated as possible. If we are in hostile lands we can at least," Henry looked at the woman and then nodded. Woman of a Duke. He wondered which of his had been ursed with this dragon. "We can at least deal with them without having half a village against us."

Hamlet, In the Woods

My eyelids shut, I fall to me my knees, happily embracing the calm. I wish to sleep and that wish is pleasantly granted as a blanket of warmness and welcoming, one I had not felt since I was a child in my father's arms, covers me, ready to guide to the world of peaceful dreams.

But I am not wanting sleep, nor peace. I only wish to kill this monster for what she has done to me. The sword has become too heavy for me to lift, and I grab my face with my left hand. "Witchcraft! What have you done to me, demon? Arggh!!!!" The weakness in me has slept, but my darkness fights to keep my body from following that road. I clinch the grass in clumps with my fist before falling to the ground, paralyzed by song. Tears stream down from one eye,my only open eye.

All I want...is blood.

The Mute paused, and he gestured to the man. [Organise a search party. We must discover whether it is Goneril Go. Do it.] He raised a finger, stopping the man short. [Discretely. We do not want to raise our Lordships hopes and dash them. It would break him.]

He saw no need to notify the King - not yet. If Mercutio was wrong, or the woman was not found, then the King would be beside himself. And distracted. That did not befit the Mute. He needed the King focused, at least for now. He needed to have a messenger sent to Lady Regan. He looked to Mercutio quickly.

[Do we have knowledge of any other arrivals? Do you have another I can trust to act as a messenger for me?]

Goneril merely nodded in silent agreement?she could think of no better plan, and indeed it seemed the safest course. Better to minimize the number of people they came into contact with, until they could find out where they were. Until they could confirm or disprove how dangerous the people here truly were.

[blockquote]Trees passed in blurs as Hamlet's still tearing eyes stared into the darkening wood. The spirit carried him deeper and deeper, rocking him gently with her gait. The forest was quiet. Hamlet could feel the tension in Ariel, less in her spectral flesh than in her attitude.

The night sky shone finally through the canopy. Before him, Hamlet could see a thatched hovel before the spirit turned on the trail and approached. Outside, a young man sat by a fire. He quickly rose, and the two exchanged words. Hamlet still dangled upside down. As they entered the house, it was surprisingly well lit and...surprisingly large. In fact, much larger within than it appeared from without. He could hear the spirit conversing with the young man, though in his haze he could not hear their words. He felt himself deposited on a bed.

He felt hours pass, staring into nothing.

The young man came back, a glowglobe hovering above his hand. He spoke softly to it, and the light dispersed about the room revealing...books. Hamlet was lying upon a bolster in a vast library that stretched to a vaulted ceiling. Ladders, balconies and staircases provided access. There was a heavy book open on a small table.

The young man sat cross legged upon the floor and smiled. He touched Hamlet's shoulder, and warmth crept through Hamlet's extremities. He found himself able to move again.

The young man spoke. "Welcome, Hamlet. I am Orlando. My master will return soon. You've been brought here for your protection."[/blockquote]

[blockquote]The Mute's eyes became distant suddenly, but returned to focus intently upon Mercutio's face. But Mercutio wasn't looking at the Mute's hands. He'd heard rumors that the Mute could communicate by signs, that his hands had been magically imbued so that his dumb-speech was intelligble to all, but seeing it, feeling it, nearly made him faint. The Mute was ordering him to organize a search, to verify the woman's identity. He was to be discrete so as not to crush the King.

The Mute paused, then continued, asking if there was knowledge of others, and if there was one he could trust as a messenger. Mercutio paused to think. "I have informants in other lands. As for messengers, I'm accustomed to carrying words myself, if need be. My horse is swift, as we must be, for no doubt Regan has already acted on this information. I imagine Cordelia will not be far behind her."[/blockquote]

Hamlet, in a Library

I have a headache. I rub my forehead and sit up, looking at the man named Orlando through squinted, light sensitive eyes. Blinking, his image becomes clearer, but I do not like what I see and brush his hand off with more force than I mean to. "Where am I?" There is nothing but books around me and my mind settles a bit. It reminds me of the palace at my home.

The madness has been quelled for the time being, I realize this and embrace my time of peace. "What do you mean for my own protection? In the cabin I built..." I hold my hands up. "with mine own hands has always protected me from the forest. Why should I believe now is different?"

OOC: Technically blubeast's update, but the others might be interested into this as a piece of worldbuilding, an insight into the nature of Rosland...

[blockquote]Orlando grinned. "Well," he said, reclining against a shelf, "we couldn't be sure your house would hold up. We fear that what's causing all the trouble outside isn't of the forest, despite being in it."

[image=http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__aPQuACekd8/SeyiLCz_3cI/AAAAAAAAA0s/324N4aA3_II/s400/beauty%26beast_library.jpg]

Orlando began to walk about the room. He trailed his hands over the spines of books with titles like Malleus Maleficarum and Aldaraia, in Hebrew and Arabic and scripts from further East. The Illiad. The Odyssey. The Ramayana.

There were books in English, too, with titles that Hamlet did not recognize. The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus, which sat next to a similar title in German...The King James Bible...

The titles stretched on and on. Pygmalion. Death of a Salesman. Great Expectations. A Tale of Two Cities. The Brothers Karamazov. The Cherry Orchard. The Divine Comedy. Siddharta. Waiting for Godot. The Screwtape Letters. The Satanic Verses. Cien años de soledad. El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha. L'Etranger. Huis Close. Fear and Trembling...

...The Lord of the Rings. Ulysses. The Bridge of San Luis Rey. The Old Man and the Sea. The Great Gatsby. Dune. The Brief, Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. In Cold Blood. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.....

...Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone...The Phantom Tollbooth...The Chronicles of Narnia...Are You There, God? It's Me Margaret...

The titles seemed to stretch into infinity as Orlando gazed over them. Finally, he turned to the book on the desk, a succinctly titled tome: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. He nodded, returning his attention to his guest. "You're quite safe here. Help yourself to anything. Are you hungry?"[/blockquote]

Hamlet, in the Library

"I would like some meat. Meat and apples, if you have them. And water." There was something about this place that calmed my spirits and I did not feel the usual alarm and manic that I would feel when waking. I remember mornings and nights of waking up in sweats, naked, cuts on my body, saliva, and fur, with a boar beside me, stripped of its skin, only partly, because I would come to in the middle of the skinning. Skinning...

"This thing that is causing trouble," I tried to stand, ready to fall over, but my legs held firm to my surprise. "I have seen nothing of it. Besides the disturbance of the beasts tonight, I have seen nothing."

Peaseblossom
The woods..

Peaseblossom noted at the area Persimmon had noticed. Some very heavy had walked in the area. And the stench was strong. As far as she knew, most humans did not smell such way, but she did not know for sure. She hovered, waiting Moth and Cobweb to respond to her queries.

At first, nothing could be heard. Where were her brethren? Then, Peaseblossom heard the sounds of heavy breathing.

Persimmon screeching, and her alight, and and dim to mote, as she noticed a shape emerging from the darkness. It was HUGE and grey, and had a face like nothing she knew of from the dark woods. And if she had any thoughts to whether its intentions were good or evil, were quickly dashed as she looked down to see Cobweb hung limply from the figure's belt like a trophy.

No!

She shot skyward, moving high, out of reach as she began to move her head frantically, searching for Moth, her bow drawn full. She gestured for Persi, who had gone dark, and turned once more into a tiny speck. She gave the command 'HOME!' towards Persi. Cobweb was quick, how had the creature captured him without a sound?! She quickly looked around for Moth once more. Wasnt he on the other side? If he did not appear soon, she was bound to the orders her Mistress had given, and would have to leave them, and report. She did not want to leave Cobweb, but this creature was strange to her. Her magics might not work on it. But maybe..

It couldnt hurt. And she was not technically 'fighting' it. As she slipped behind a tree, still looking for Moth, she cast a spell.

"Of thistle and vine, and oak and yew,
within the Dark Woods, and thistle-grew
help me to save Cobweb, and Mustardseed too!"

The plants might be able to grab Cobweb, and keep the beast busy...as for Mustardseed..she didnt know. But, it didnt hurt to ask the forest.

Moth.

Where WAS he!?

King Richard

This horse hath eased mine travel burden greatly. Would

Where were thou, o proud steed, at Bosworth, when Richard needed thee most?
Bah, 'tis of little matter now. A kingdom lost can e'er be regained, albeit
The form may have to change. But soft, I hear more steeds approach!

Bandits! And Scottis by their cries! It seems e'en in this queer place
Only in blood is Richard's destiny writ! Still, the black clad men know not who I be,
Perhaps to a poor hobbled traveler a hand they'll lend.
[to others].
Foul Bandits! thou wouldst accost a journeying man, mangled in the womb tho he be?
Is chivalry dead 'mongst the men of the Land of Scots? [He draws his sword.]
Come then, and test your metal! I be not so hobbled that I cannot avenge this slight
'Pon the sanctity of innocent passersby! [He swipes at the closest bandit.]

"Look, at least we got a nice place to sleep and it seems warm. In the morning we can ask the inhabitants about where we are. Probably Spain I think. Until then I´d say you should get some sleep while I will be doing my knightly honor and look after you, milady."

Henry didn´t know how spain looked, but this looked not like france and it was always raining in the German lands. he read about Saxony it was the wttest place in the world. It was too warm for the North. So it was probably the West. Concerning as it was, it had something of freedom. "Well, I think you should stay dressed though. Despite the obvious manners we both must keep in most uncivilized situations as this, we might needa run fast." Henry smiled. Obviously he enjoyed the idea of her getting dressed up in a hurry. How many of layers of cloth was she probably wearing? "I´ll keep my armor on, too." He then said as if it was the same. He could not help butt smile a little as he turned to the house and watched for any activity.

They surely weren´t gon leaving their farmhouse here alone.

Barn

Whether he was simply making an attempt at humor, or making fun of her, Goneril could not tell, so she made no comment as she found a place somewhat removed from the livestock that occupied the barn. The daughter of a king, spending the night in a barn with beasts?the irony disgusted her. But she dared not complain?in such strange lands as this, any shelter was better than none at all.

The hay was prickly against her body, and she knew she?d be picking it off her clothes and out of her hair the next morning, but after hours of walking through forest, sand, and hills, it was still more comfortable than simply lying on the ground. Settling so that she could still see the barn?s entrance, she briefly looked toward her companion. For a fleeting moment, the thought crossed her mind that he might leave her here, abandon her while she slept, but she quickly pushed the thought aside. As much as he did not seem to like her?and she would not deny that she did not like him very much, either?he did seem to be a man of honor, a man of his word. He had said he would keep watch, and she felt sure that he would.

If not, morning would tell.

?Good night, sir.?

Then: ?Thank you.?

It took her a moment to get the words out, her tone was flat, and she could not look him in the face as she said it; she still had not forgiven him for his words regarding her father. But she knew that she should be grateful for his protection, no matter how he offended her otherwise. She owed him thanks for that, and she had given it?grudgingly, yes, but given nonetheless.

If he gave any response, Goneril did not hear it; she was asleep almost as soon as she closed her eyes.

And suddenly a light shone like a star, like the sun had risen again, like a lid had been lifted from the forest. It forced the plants away and the beast to its knees. When Peaseblossom could see through it, she saw a man, grizzled, holding a staff high above his head. The light came from a stone lashed to its end. His bellowing cut through the brush. "CALIBAN!" The beast writhed in pain on the ground, scratching and twitching as if beset by fire ants.

Ah, yes. The fairies knew of Caliban. And they knew, too, of the Wizard. He crouched beside Peaseblossom.

Orlando disappeared and the warmth with him. The madness does not return to me and I smile. Turning to the side to stretch my back, I see my sword and belongings. For a moment the temptation to grab is and slash at everything in sight pulled at my conscience, but it disappeared and I walk over to pick up the blade. I weigh it in my hands and swing several controlled movements, teeth break out of my thin-lipped smile and I begin to hum, moving with the blade around the room. My elegant dance and glide steps lead me to the books and I run my hands along the spines of the books before I settle on one in particular. Sitting the blade down, I reach up and pull the book from the shelf.

The Great Gatsby I open in my palms, and take a seat beside my blade and begin to read to myself aloud.

In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some
advice that I?ve been turning over in my mind ever since.
?Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,? he told me,
?just remember that all the people in this world haven?t
had the advantages that you?ve had.?

A tear streaks down from my eye, but I do not touch it, nor stop reading, but my heart's aching was a little less than before.

Hector slowly cocked his head to the side, the tone of mockery in the soldiers voices was unmistakeable, and though Hector was far from pretensious he was used to being respected as a warrior and a prince and the mockery along with the strange location had him far out of sorts. "i do not know who this man is" he said gesturing respectfully to the stranger standing off to the side of him, walking towards the patrol he added tersely "take me to your Caesarium" he was lost and far from his wife and family and it was too early in the day for him to have blood on his hands, although if these soldiers continued to press him, that time would come forward a pace.

Peaseblossom
Up thine crick, withouts a paddle, The woods..

"Of thistle and vine, and oak and yew,
within the Dark Woods, and thistle-grew
help me to save Cobweb, and Mustardseed too!"

Peaseblossom cast her spell, hoping that it would help, as she frantically looked around for Moth. Thankfully, the forest responded quickly. Creepers and branches ensnared the beast; the creature tore at them with abandon. They slowed his advance, but would not hold. In the darkness, the beast roared and cursed. Peaseblossom was trying to decide if she dared to fly in, and grab Cobweb, when suddenly night became day.

The feeling of Magic, true magic was overwhelming, as if a magical doorway had been opened. Peaseblossom landed quickly, as the light forced the plants away and the beast to its knees. When Peaseblossom could see, she saw a man, grizzled, holding a staff high above his head. The light came from a stone lashed to its end. The Wizard!! She had heard of him..all of the fairies knew of him. But she had never actually SEEN him..well, not up close. And not using magic.

"CALIBAN!" The Wizard called out. The beast writhed in pain on the ground, scratching and twitching as if beset by fire ants.

The Wizard crouched beside Peaseblossom, as her wings moved like mad, worried about her brethern. He spoke to her. "Gentle spirit, how is it with you? Are you hurt?"

Peaseblossom rose slightly, as she nodded, grateful to see him, but she had other things on her mind. She spoke quickly.

"Thank you Wizard, I am unhurt and fine, but that beast Caliban has a friend of mine, on his belt.. unconscious Cobwebb does hang. And yet 2 more, are unknown for me to find!"

Peaseblossom hopped that Persimmion had headed her warning as well, and headed home, but she looked around, in case her companion had stayed near. Worried Peaseblossom was, for she had heard horrible stories about the one called Caliban. She had never seen him before, but had heard many horrible stories about him. She now hoped that they were not true. Even in her state, she remembered to silently thank the trees for coming to her aid earlier, as she hovered, waiting for the Wizard to speak. Perhaps, he would help?

And Moth was still none to be seen.

OOC: I am horribly sorry for my inactivity life has really been hell lately.

IC: Moth

Moth knew not what had caused him to stray so far from the side of Cobweb, nor Peaseblossom, but with the sudden burst of light not far away he was swiftly drawn to it, only to see a great Wizard standing near staff held aloft in the air, a great beast held prisoner to his own agony before him, and Peaseblossom nearby.

"Peaseblossom!" Moth cried as he hastened to her side. "I am sorry for my wanderings, I know not by what force I was swayed, but it pulled me hence from your side." he said dropping before here. "I am a hopeless fool, more an ass than the head of our lady's consort." he added, berating himself heavily tears falling from his eyes at his own folly and stupidity. "Had I been by your side I would perchance have aided you better." he then looked around some more. "Where hast Cobweb gone?" Moth asked, looking even more worried than before, and preparing to hate himself even more for costing him and his kin yet another companion.

Mercutio paused to think. "I have informants in other lands. As for messengers, I'm accustomed to carrying words myself, if need be. My horse is swift, as we must be, for no doubt Regan has already acted on this information. I imagine Cordelia will not be far behind her."

Mercutio provided him with information, and the Mute mused. Gesturing, he asked, carefully, willing his words to only be apparent to this particular man, as the equivalent of a discrete whisper. [Send for someone, Mercutio. I need a person who is loyal to money, not to principles. We cannot rely upon principles at this stage.] That was not true. But the Mute had the power of language on his side, and the knowledge of war. [Tactics, Mercutio. I want you to personally ensure we obtain this youth, by whatever means. Bring her to me, personally. If it is not her - and I shall know - then we need not raise our noble King's hopes.]

He had repeated himself. But he needed to ensure Mercutio thought him loyal to the King above all.

The Mute paused. [We will need to position parties near Regan and Cordelia, carefully. We must have near instantaneous information. Recruit magical beings, so that we are not outflanked by Macbeth either. How goes the borders?]

OOC:No sweat..I understand you're in the grips of RL'thulu.. ;)

Peaseblossom
The not so dark Woods..

Peaseblossom looked about, trying to see if she could see either Persimmion or Moth, as she waited for the Wizard to comment, when suddenly she saw movement oft in the trees.

"Peaseblossom!"

A turn of her head, and she saw Moth, quickly moving towards her. "I am sorry for my wanderings, I know not by what force I was swayed, but it pulled me hence from your side." he said dropping down next to her, and the Wizard. "I am a hopeless fool, more an ass than the head of our lady's consort."

She gently touched his shoulder, taken aback at seeing him so distraught. "Be brave, dear Moth, and fall not to hopelessness." she told him softly, even as he continued to speak. "Had I been by your side I would perchance have aided you better." he then suddenly looked around quickly. "Where hast Cobweb gone?" Moth asked, looking worried.

With a stern look, she pointed to the beast writhing on the ground.

"Thy creature they call Caliban, hast Cobweb on his belt I fear." Peaseblossom then looked towards the Wizard. "Can thee help us to free our friend, before he meets and untimely end?" she asks the wizard directly as she hovers next to him.
