Owen Lars bloodline?

I am pretty new to the Star Wars EU, and I have been actively reading fan fics (yes, I'm an addict, already). I have come across something that seems contradictory to what the film world has shown me. In some stories, Owen Lars is displayed as Kenobi's brother not Anakings step-brother. How does that make sense? Can anybody explain this to me?

 

Obi-Wan and Owen are not related to each other at all, not by blood or by marriage. However, they are still brothers, just in some other way.

This has no effect on Owen's status as Anakin's step-brother.

Thats very true.

Brothers also = good friends.

It is possible that although Owen puts on a "I hate Ben" facade, they are actually good friends?

Does anyone else think the EU can worm its way out of anything...?
