PT Owen Lars Not Recognising Threepio

This question will no doubt have been asked before but Owen spent a while with C-3PO on the farm on Tatooine. In ANH, he seems to have forgotten all about C-3PO! Has he forgotton that stage in his life or does he just not recollect the droid's name?? Or.....am...i....just nit-pickin'

20+ years later? Plus don't all Protocol droids have similar names?

If you're an overly sentimental grandiose twerp like most Star Wars characters you might remember something trivial like that. But Owen Lars is a sensible, hard lived man who has too much actual work to do to recognize some random droid from decades ago.

3PO never tells Owen his name in ANH.

Yeah, pretty much. Yes, Anakin got overly attached to R2, but remember, this is Anakin we're talking about - getting overly attached is kind of his "thing". Ordinary people, as Pablo said, would probably think about an old droid approximately most people would think of the iPod they owned in 2003. If you dug it up somewhere again, it'd be about 30 seconds worth of "Hey, look at this! Wow, I can't believe it still works!" followed by putting it straight back in the drawer it came out of.

And 22 years had passed since Owen last saw Threepio.

No it's not. Getting overly attached is EVERYONE's kind of thing. Or the kind of thing for a lot of people. It's a facet of human nature, not something that only Anakin specializes in.

And let's not forget how Anakin's attachment to R2 ended up:

Yeah. There and literally hundreds upon thousands of droids throughout the galaxy, and more than just as many protocol droids.

Ben doesn't remember R2.
Considering the way the droids are treated in the SW universe and that Owen is a farmer (aka lots of stuff to do), him forgetting stuff like this is not impossible.

Let's ask another question:

Do you remember the license plate of the vehicle you owned 20 years ago?

Nit-picking. Did Obi-one not remember R2-D2? Was Anakin a " learner" when he parted ways with Kenobi?? These are just minor plotholes due to the time frame in between the movies, that's all.

R2-D2 was never Obi-Wan's droid. Technically Obi-Wan never actually owned a droid at all.

In the sense that Anakin is only a Knight whereas Obi-Wan is a Master- that might work with him being a "learner"- he still has something to learn.

Obi-one should know who R2-D2 is, and there is no way to deny that. Him picking on r2-d2 always bothered Anakin.
And Come on, when Obi-one last saw Anakin he was a full fledged Jedi Knight who happened to sit on the council with him. Anakin was way past being Obi-one's teachings.
Obi-one even even told him that he was far a greater jedi that he could ever hope to be..

I don't recall the plate number of any car I have owned but I'd probably remember everything about a car that involved a jedi Knight that I am related to coming along and burying the body of hi smother in my backyard.

Otherwise, 3p0 never says his name, and Owen could care less.

Owen probably started to remember 3po or more likely R2 after Luke mentioned the name Obi Wan Kenobi. That's why he got all insistent about both droids getting a memory wipe.

Obi Wan is known for bending the truth from time to time. He knew R2, but he can't let Luke know that.

Him lying about R2-D2 doesn't accomplish much, does it?
