To appease tom I propose you replace SW questions with MCU questions, Coruscant

    Indeed!

I have my theories on why Ahsoka is the Anthchrist:

    * She's a badass female character loved by the kids, but her name is not Leia.
    * She gets character developement through the series, and that violates the spirit of the prequels.
    * She's the closest female to Anakin, but her name is not Tracy.
    * She's obviously intended to be black.

This was really excellent! I really enjoyed the critique of Padme, since I've never really spent a lot of time interrogating how I feel about her and I think you hit on a lot of truths about how she developed (or, failed to) over the prequels.

Held off on this because I wanted to give you a well-thought-out answer.

Google and Amazon are great. I teach kids to use Google, making sure that they understand how to type in key words that get them the results they want, plus making sure that they understand that the best/most relevant/most reliable resources will not always be in the top results. I teach how to distinguish between a good website and a bad one and how to identify biases.

I'm an e-reader fan myself. Publishers are still ironing out kinks for how they want to handle library licenses but it's getting better. Even with Kindle Unlimited, I don't see libraries disappearing due to Amazon. Transforming, yes, but nothing wrong with that.

And of course a lot of people still prefer physical books. I don't see that changing either.

Libraries are already offering a lot of services online; e-books is one but there is also video storytime and classes for adults, plus tutoring and reference questions via IM. I think online services will continue to increase. Google is promoting their Hangouts app for reference services after hours for school librarians; my students are a bit too young for it but it's a great idea for older kids, and I could see such an app or program being developed specifically for online services for younger kids.

I got a new cataloging system this year and I do have the option of running it from my iPad. Which is great. I have taught the students and teachers in my building to download and use the app.

anakinfan, at what age do you think kids should start reading, for example, post-2005 Legends-branded novels, Mein Kampf, "Decision Points" by former President George W Bush, or the Bible?

You know, the worst of the worst of the written word.

This is a bit obvious, but...

My elementary school librarian had a huge influence on me, and I still remember her very fondly almost twenty years later, while my memory of some teachers I probably spent more time with is starting to fade. Without a doubt, what Tracy is doing is having a significant impact on a lot of people. Twenty years from now, there are going to be people looking back fondly on Tracy as the person largely responsible for getting them into reading.

I can't imagine using anything other than that 37 zillion drawer beast of a card catalog that used to be in every library. Doing it any other way just feels wrong

I remember going to the school library to read Frankenstein. I also remember scrambling across the school in slow motion to finish, because the toilets were flooding and I didn't want to leave yet.
