Ok, I'm in desperate need of some help now!

I am now starting on a Lavender nightgown that I have to complete before christmas. My *relatively* local JoAnns has had this stunning silk-satin stuff that's the perfect color and everything for the last 3 months. Now, when I finally need it, it appears to be gone! I'm going over there in a couple of days to be absolutely sure, but the employees can't seem to find it. But they don't seem to know what Silk Satin is in the first place... argh! AND to make it worse I can't find silk satin on JoAnn's website either.

So my question is, does anyone know a place where I can buy this fabric? Or where it is on Joann's website? I desperately need it in the next few days and I'm really at a loss of where to look for it.

ALSO I can use either purple like the movie or the blue like the real thing. Either is great, ANYTHING is awesome!

Any and All help is greatly appreciated!!!

thanks so much and God bless!

This looks really pretty and is only $5/yd, it is poly though.

Or there's this which is silk at $14/yd...

Thank you Benae!!! I actually just returned triumphant from the fabric store; they DID actually have it, but the bolt itself this time around didn't have a name on it so some of the new employees weren't able to help me over the phone. BUT I found it, so I'm happy :)

Thank you very much though, I intend to make another one of these some day, so I'll keep the resources about.

    God bless and Merry christmas!

Hi Nidrail! I just wanted to say that your doll gowns are SO beautiful! I used to make dolls - cloth bodied fairy dolls and mermaids and whatnot. Padmé is just delightful! I'm sure doll collectors just LOVE it!

I've looked through all the posts and I'm still lost. Is the back drape one piece or two? I have the McCalls pattern and it's made from two pieces, but all the pictures I can find of the actual dress (as well as watching that scene in the movie a million times) it's impossible to tell. Could it really be two pieces and her hair covers the back part? I'm trying to make this dress for my senior formal/C4 and I'm stuck on the drape.

I made it in two pieces, as per the pattern, but joined it along the way down......its difficult to tell how its done without actually looking at the costume :(

I have the McCall's pattern for this dress and I've already cut the fron panal for the heirloom stiching. My quandry is how to do it. Here's what it looks like up close: http://www.padawansguide.com/fidm/maggie/lav_stitching.jpg. I started to do it by hand but I know it's gonna get too messy with so much thread. How did you guys do it? I have a very simple sewing machine, but my mom said she thinks she may have a setting close to that. Any advice? Thanks!

I didn't actually do it, I found a braid that was similar in colour and looked like the real thing from a distance....I just sewed it onto the gown. ;)

I made my jappor snippet today. It's a little wide, but I think It'll do. The first pic is blurry, but you get the idea. It also shows the material that I'm using fo rthe dress. The second pic shows what it looks like when worn.

So I've bought my fabric, got the shoes, altered the pattern (finally figured out how to do the back drape in one piece and have it look right) and my friend is making me the brooch out of sculpy. Any suggestions on how to make the tiara? I'm in the dark about that one.

All I have to do with my dress is the back drape and the tiara. For the tiara I think I'm gonna buy a cheap tiara from Clair's or something (since it is prom season) and sculpt scuply over the tiara part and bake it on there. Then just paint it.

How did you do the back drape in one peice?

There is a great tutorial on Padawansguide that I used for the back drape on this gown and I used it for the Aqua Georgette back drape because that is a waterfall design as well but not gathered in the back like this one.

I used the pattern from McCalls and an old bed sheet as my basis. I placed the pattern on the sheet and cut a straight line in between the two shoulders where the pattern says to attach to the dress. I'm not good at explaining it so I posted some pictures of the bedsheet version. If you have any questions let me know and I'll try to explain as best I can.

Very smart. However, I hav ethe patterns cut out from a while ago so I'll just do it that way. I don't think it will be very noticeable. And I figured that I can post some prgress pictures o fmy dress so far. I do need to fix the shoulder straps.

    Hey Tally,
I used sculpy for my tiara as well--worked out good. For the pattern etched into it, I traced the pattern onto the sculpy with an exacto (sp?) knife so that the lines would be visible but not too obvious. It turned out well except for the fact that I used the wrong kind of silver paint and it ended up sticky. But the swirly lines looked darned good lol.

I was actually just studying the tiara before I read your reply and what I think I'm gonna do for the lines on it is use glue. Just regular elmer's glue because it dires clear. That should give it that raised look and then once the glue is dry I can just paint over it all and it'll look uniform. You think?

Your dresses are beautiful, Lady Skywalker and Adalia!
Tally, this was the first dress I did flying solo as well, and I was so grateful to have it finished! I got my friend to model it when I put the pearl strands on, and she has very narrow shoulders, so I just ended up letting her wear it to D*C.
My new camera should be shipped this week, so I'll finally be able to post pictures! Hooray! A camera with no film!

Thank you. I didnt like the soft blue and couldnt get a lavender I liked so this was the next best option. My daughter looks miserable, but in fact she is thrilled to bits with the gown.
