Who knew that Padme & Anakin were married much less in a relationship?

Palpatine outright knew & told Anakin. But if Palpatine knew why didn't the Jedi?

OB1's words to Padme indicate that he might have al least suspected. In one of the comics its hinted that he suspected during the Clone Wars. If so, then why didn't he talk to his "brother" about this.

I would love to hear an EU or novel-based answer. Yoda's expressions and Obi-Wan's dialogue in the movie suggest (to me at least) that they've known all along, but weren't talking either.

Threepio was definitely the woman of that relationship. When the camera isn't on them, I hear that R2 beats his whiny ass.

but how could they know & not say anything? Isn't he breaking a major rule?

I thought R2 was the ring bearer & 3PO the Flower Girl?

Mayebe the priest was paid hush money? Had an "unfortunate accident"?

I like the idea that Obi-Wan knew but protected their secret.

And I'll admit that the scene where Yoda and Anakin talk about the dreams makes one wonder how Yoda could NOT know, but it seems like it would be out of character for Yoda to know and not do anything about it.

Yep, R2 and 3PO knew, and Bail was smart to have 3PO's memory erased.

    I'm assuming Anakin told Palps.

I'm pretty sure Obi-Wan knew, maybe not that they were married, but that they were in a relationship. If he didn't, he's a lot dumber than I've given him credit for. Given the PDA in the hangar on Geonosis at the end of the battle, I kind of think Yoda knew as well.

I also wonder if Obi-Wan and Yoda, or at least Obi-Wan, didn't just let it happen. If they were overly interested in preventing it, seems that they would have never allowed Anakin to escort Padme back to Naboo at the end of AOTC. Maybe neither of them thought that Anakin would actually go through with a marriage, or maybe they didn't think Padme would do it.

Another thing to think about: the Senators, unless they were blind, had to have known that Padme was pregnant. Did they question who the father was?

No. I don't think Anakin told Palps. When Palps mentions it while revealing who he truly is, Anakin looks surprised.

Could Palps have found out based on the fact that his home planet is Naboo?

I'm just speculating, I had forgotten the dialogue in that scene. You are right, when Palpatine makes a reference to "your wife," Anakin looks surprised. I'm assuming Padme didnt' tell him, so either he read Anakin's mind or he found out through some connection on Naboo.

He's surprised that Palpatine knows about the premonition, not the marriage itself.

Bottom line: If Anakin told him about the Tatooine massacre, then he definitely divulged his clandestine wedding.

I don't think so. The marriage to Padme is supposed to be a secret. So I can't see him telling Palps. Why would he tell Palps? Might put Padme in an awkward situation.

The Sandpeople incident is another story. Thats a secret that effects only him. So his confiding in Palps about that is no problem, though I can't imagine why he'd tell Palps or anyone what he did. You'd think you would want to keep something like that under wraps.

Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, and Yoda suspected something. Obi-Wan of course knew even as a padawan that Anakin had an attachment to Padme.

That wasn't in Labyrinth of Evil was it? That sounds a bit familiar as well. Although how would Panaka know?

Palpatine is Anakin's mentor, friend, and surrogate father. If he could divulge his transgressions and sorrows, then he would surely make known his joys, the very reason for his being.

Besides, from Anakin's POV, Palpatine isn't merely Padme's colleague, but a comrade. They went through Hell together during the Naboo blockade. Why wouldn't he be trusted?

If thats the case, then why not tell OB1? Bc they are supposed to be closer than he & Palps are. Hell, they've trusted each other with their lives. I have a feeling he & Padme had a little conversation about that and decided the fewer that know the beter. I think Palps in some Sithy way found out.

because he would be expelled from the Jedi Order? He wasn't suppose to form that sort of relationship - if the Jedi 'Officially' found out, then what would they have to do?

According to Stover's ROTS novelization, being the former Senator from Naboo, Palpatine found out due to connections in Naboo's civil clergy.

Panaka knew. He was the one that gave Palpatine the information, and that is how he used it against Anakin. I read it in the EU.
