"I'm just a super dork and wanted a picture of me hugging an Anakin like the scene in the movie."

Ame Heh, he was cute--that's reason enough. ;) I got a pic with him too. Unfortunately my pics are stuck on my camera; the cam-to-PC cord is momentarily lost. I remember you though; you were one of only 2 others I saw wearing the same costume as me!

Naboo Not only is your costume great, but you look great in it! I dig the idea of a purse--I'll have to dig out my old scraps and throw one together so I can carry around what I need for standing in line in style. :) Unfortunately I won't be able to bead it to match--I bought rhinestone strands for a perfect movie-match; cost me $17/yd (I only needed 1.5 I think). Then some of them fell off after wearing it for 2 days at CIII--so now I need more! Interesting way to do the skirt, too; blast I wish I had my pics...I'll point out how I did it as soon as I can!

STYROFOAM HEAD! best. idea. ever. Where did you find one, though?? I'm hoping for a better headpiece by the premiere (for C3 I had swirly silver headbands). Really, it's the last perfect opportunity to wear it...I need to go all out and buy a wig.

Naboo_Girl, that's just awesome, and the tutorial is great! I'm definitely going to be using that as a reference if/when I remake my dress. Your awesome fabric was a big factor in prompting me to sell off my old one-- I really want to use something drapier next time. And your headpiece is freaking fantastic. All hail the power of Fun Foam!

Hey-- Wendy!!! Welcome back to the board. :) I can't wait to see pics of your costume, and I'm sorry again that I took so friggin' long to reply to your PM!

oooh I forgot when I was at C3, but now I remember you were behind the costumes in the SW Musical! That was so long ago we'd talked about that. And I see from the site that you were in it, too? It was awesome--I saw parts of it at C3.

In the battle of my schoolwork versus me getting cool stuff done, I win.

Now, if only I could get my exams done and papers written... hopefully, finals will not prove to be my doom.

Naboo_Girl - You never cease to amaze with your accuracy! I'm so impressed with all your work. The foam headpiece is absolute genius! What a terrific idea.

Thanks for sharing all your tricks with us!

Naboo_Girl, I am just so impressed with the consistent quality and accuracy of your costumes. Your version of this costume, headdress included, has got to be one of the very best recreations of it that I have seen. Outstanding job and very nice tutorials!

Thanks everyone! I'm glad my tutorial can be of some help.

The idea for using craft foam came to me late at night. And since I wanted to try it out, I had to make the dress to go with it, even though I never planned on making it.

That's one of the best reasons for making a costume that I've heard! You certainly conquered this one. :D

Naboo Girl - the last coat (of about 20, yeah!) of spray paint is dying on my foam headpiece. I had given up making a headpiece before the premiere until I saw your idea. Thanks! While I'm here, I'll post my fave C3 pics in my costume, but then I'll post more after the premiere with my rockin' headpiece!

As promised (or threatened) here's 2 pics from the premiere:

Padme in line
passing the time

The headpiece was the most-admired part of the costume! Everyone was surprised it was foam. Great idea again!

Your headpiece looks great but I wish I could see more of it. Any other pictures?

Well, now that you mention it...just kidding! :p
Your hair and headdress look fantastic. I get so excited when I see those two details done nicely on this costume.

hehe
thanks. I decided to use a wig for the hair as although i could have done it with my own hair it would have taken hours and i didnt have the facilites to do it so the wig was used. The headdress i love to bits..it was half the reason i made this costume!

Maggie had expressed intrest in the beads used on this gown. I got a good shot of them at FIDM. I'm actually considering making this gown so I took many shots of this costume, at an angle so you can see under the sleeve area (I'm hoping I will now be able to figure out how to construct this thing! That's what stopped me before).

For now, here is the shot of the beads:

[image=http://kay-dee.net/fidm/pad_tatmid/pad-tatmid-bead-low.jpg]
HIGH RES VERSION

By the way, I'm pretty sure the debate is over but the dress is blue - a slight greenish blue. I got a pantone while there for those who have pantone color guides: 7464C. At some time (probably after Halloween) I'll go to the paint store and tell you all what the corresponding paint chip color is so you can go to your local hardware store and take a look. Colors never look the same on monitors.

Also, the designes looked like they were stenciled on with paint (the way everyone seems to have been doing it). One of the shapes looked like it was rubbing off and fading due to wear and tear.

Woweeee! That one shot just answered about half my questions on this one! The front is sewn on gathered in two directions!

(Compared to how I interpretted this part, one piece of fabric, gathered sieways and hanging over on edge.)
:)

Wow, that's a great pic, kay_dee! You can see where the individual strings of beads are sewn down at the top!

I'm new to the study of this costume, so forgive me if this is common knowledge :)

The cape edge and the edges of the upper portions of the wrap around peices of the bodice have a thin piping made of light gray/silver toned satin fabric (Presumable silk charmeuse).

Here are shots with these details:

HOLY CRAP Kathy those are AWESOME pictures!!! I'm fairly bouncing over here. I would love, love, love beyond words to see high-res copies of all your pictures of this dress. I'm sitting here with my friend Kimmerie and we're really thinking the fabric looks velour-ish. Did it look that way in person? Also, did you get a close-up of the stencilling?

You are so awesome for taking these pictures!!
