    Thanks :D

The fabric makes a huge difference. I think I'll remake the skirt soon since I had a limited amount of fabric... there must be somewhere in NYC where I can find the same color lol.

I was able to find fabric for this costume at Walmart the other night for a $1.50 a yard! So I am offically making this costume. I am trying to do lots of research on it but the top is just so confusing to me. I'm hoping to get it done for Star Wars Weekends so I can get photos in the Tatooine section.

It's an "Aqua Crepe" Just somewhat darker, but sooo close to the paint chip! What was both a pro and a con was that it was in the clearance aisle- meaning I got it for $2 a yard, but I don't have much room for error and should probably do a really good mock-up first!

I got the paint chip a couple years back at the Home Depot. I have no clue if it still exists there.

I just realized that I didn't get enough fabric for a lining, which means that I can't do the piping. Darnit. And I had just figured out how to do piping too [face_frustrated] But, still charging ahead. Although I might head back to Joann to see if I can find a similar fabric, if not the same one. I highly doubt it though...

I finally debuted my costume this weekend! I meant to wear it to NYCC, but I I could not find my wig in time. I ended up skipping it and wearing it to Farpoint instead in MD. I wore it to the masquerade and SWEPT the awards! I won First place Sci-Fi, First Place Workmanship, AND Best in Show!!! A million thanks to everyone here who helped by proving pattern help, fabrics, and exhibit photos and notes. Without all the information in here I couldn't have made my costume as nice as I did :D

Thanks everyone :D . It was a costume I've wanted to do for a while but just kept throwing back in the closet until I get ahold of the cape patterning. With everyone's great tips and tricks, it was finally doable.

Now I just need to find a place to put my awards (as well as last year's for the Twilek) :D .

Hey you're welcome--I love it when people are as excited about Star Wars costumes as me. I'm wanting to get into costuming this year and try to make a couple. That was one I really liked from Star Wars! Plus of course the famous Lake Gown, and I think that might be my first attempt. Although, I really like the red/black Queen Amidala dress from Episode I, but it would take a lot of effort...I can't decide!!! :D

    Take care,
    MD

Hello everyone! Maybe you remember me, a few years ago I asked for help for the Slave Leia costume. :)

Now I like to do the light blue Tatooine dress, but I have the same problems like some of you here. First of all...
...how to find a good/nice fabric? Ok, my feeds are already hurting solely from the thought of looking for one. :p
    and
...what kind of shoes do fit to that costume (or what is she wearing)?
    and
...are there any pattern? I've read that one of you have pattern. Would it be possible to send them to me as well? It would help me a lot!

    Thanks for any help! :)

    Hello Skiara :)

Congrats on picking an awesome costume to try out.

For fabric, I actually got mine from another costumer who had extra and was willing to share with me. It's a jersey knit with a really soft feel, I can't remember what it is called at the moment, feels like velor but with no pile. You need about 10-12 yards of fabric for the costume.

My shoes were actually blue/grey boots I found on sale locally after winter and they work perfectly for me. I think the actual boots were a blue/grey Timberland boot. You don't really see that many pictures of it except for the toe area.

As for the pattern, it isn't mine to give out, so unfortunately I cannot provide it. You would have to contact Neimhaille since it was her pattern.

Also be sure to check out Padawans Guide for pictures and tips from others. I know there are also tips in this thread, it's a lot to read through I know. Good Luck :D

Thanks for the information, Benae_Quee. :)

I just wrote a PM to Neimhaille and I hope she reads the PM soon! Maybe it's possible to send me those pattern as well. *hopes*

Velour-jersey-knit mix? Good to know. But what do you mean with 'velour with no pile'?

So the shoes are the most unimportant part, right? That was one of the main things I worried for my Slave Leia outfit - but I had luck and found a pair for just 5?! But I don't think that I'll be that lucky again. So as long as the dress is long enough I can wear whatever I want then. :D

Hey everybody, I found an honest to goodness "jersey crepe"! I can't believe how many fruitless internet searches I have done over the years for this type of fabric; it seemed simply not to exist!

That's the good news... I received a swatch of this material and the stretch and texture are absolutely perfect. The bad news is that of course it doesn't come in aqua... As I understand it, polyester is almost impossible to dye properly at home. Perhaps it can be done, but I imagine the results will not be colorfast.

The crazy idea I came up with is if a whole bunch of costumers banded together maybe we could convince this company to offer the fabric in the proper color. Sounds like a long long long shot... I will do some research to see if that is even remotely possible.

In the meantime, here's the link: http://www.voguefabricsstore.com/VF104-20-Mies-Crepe-Couture-Jersey-Knit Swatches are available for a dollar
