I believe it was a purple taffeta with a black weave to it...it wasn't exactly what I expected (couldn't order a sample of it and took a chance online), but it has a nice effect.

Thank you. Collar is still bothering me with it's stubborness (I'm thinking of just doing a whole new one!), but overall I think this is the best I've done with a costume so far. I'm grateful it's turning out as well as it is!

I also posted this at the RL boards (want as many opinions as I can get.)

In light of many suggestions, I'm going to first emboss the scroll/loop design, then paint it. I spent a few hours on a photo-editing program isolating and flattening out the design and have one I believe should suffice for making the stamp. However, before I jump in, I want to get the size right. I think I'm going with a 1 1/4" height on the design, based on the fact that there are 7 repeats of the pattern down the front of the capelet. If I go with 1 1/4", I'll have 6 repeats. What do you all think?

"Done" for now! Still not 100% happy with the collar, going to redo that. May continue to play with the burnout velvet dyeing. Also playing with a way to keep the capelet/mantle from dropping and drooping over time.

This was certainly a learning experience! Thanks for all the help and advice.

    YAY!!

I wanna do a photo shoot with you, cuz no offense to the photographer, but I know that flash is killing some of the awesomeness of that costume. :(

I can confirm that- the costume looks beautiful in person. I had a lot of fun hanging out and taking pictures with you at SW in Concert! :D

It looks great, especially the scrolls. I agree with Miana...the flash is totally messing with the awesomeness of the costume. BOO FLASH!!! LOL
