I dunno, would that work? To me it looks like theres a hood and a seperate shoulder hanging thing on that pattern.

Simplicity has another cape pattern that looks more like what I mean. I just couldn't find it when I posted. :)

But I found it now: Simplicity #9452. The black cape illustrates what I was trying to describe.

Her cape almost looks like a bigger, nicer version of Mauls cape...

Hey, that's still not the right thing. There's just two different types of patterns on there: one with a hood and one with the shoulder thing; the hood doesn't change into the shoulder thing when it's put down or anything.

I dunno if you have watched the scene, but I did, and the cape has sleeves and is a little like the Travelling Mustard gown over cloak...it has a slit on the sides, and there is a front panel.

No, unfortunately I haven't seen this deleted scene yet. I'm hoping to get the DVD for X-mas, however.

Okay, my thoughts on seeing the dress in action on the DVD:
    1. The cape fabric appears to be a velour-type material. It has that rich texture of velvet, but it flows and shines like velour.
    2. The shoes she is wearing with the outfit seem to be of the same color as the dress. You can see them as she is walking to her parents house (If anyone can get a screen capture of this, that would be great!). They are high heels, and seem to have a platform look. I didn't get a good enough look at them yet...
    3. The skirt appears to be a long wrap skirt. I only saw one actual slit in it -- where it wraps around in the front. But it seems to be very full. Lots of pleats in the bottom of it. Kind of a "mermaid" or fishtail skirt. The deep pleats made by the sheer volume of fabric may be what gave the appearance of many slits in the skirt.
    4. The dress fabric seems to be smocked, rather than crinkled.

Now these are just my initial thoughts after watching the deleted scenes through one time. My husband is so excited to check out all of the bonus material and watch the movie, so I haven't made him sit through multiple viewings of the family scenes. Maybe repeated viewings may prove some of these thoughts to be wrong, or may reveal more insight...

But that's what I got after once through [face_clown]

    Anyone else have any thoughts?

I watched the deleted scenes. Whew, that was unexplainably exciting! I've waited so long. I have to say though, that I'm not as found of this dress as I was before.

    My comments:

Top: First off, I have to agree with many by saying that the top needs MUCH MORE SUPPORT! It was just painful to watch her walking across the room! Besides that, the top part is pretty cute.

Skirt: Beyond having slits at the bottom, I think that the skirt "flares" out with the use of other modifications (such as more material). The waist band looks weird and that is what makes Natalie's tummy look so round. And (this is hilarious) when she walks in the kitchen on the "Meeting the Family" cut, you can see the lines from her undies through the gown.

On a side note, I didn't like that one strand of hair that was longer than the rest of the hair-do. It would have looked much nicer were it all up.

Though this post sounds on the more negative side, it is a neat gown and someone should certainly make it!

in the picture I posted a few days ago, the dress has clearly another slit on Padme,s rigth side..probably not all dress long but certainly starting where the pleast starts !

I am sure it is a slit since we see her leg !

No, I agree that there is a slit on one side. I was simply saying that I believe there is only the one slit. I believe the slit is created by the wrap-style of the skirt.

That leg shot is actually what provided me a view of the shoes [face_clown]

I do have to admit that I was wrong in my initial view of those shoes. They are the same color as her dress, but they aren't platform at all. They look like they are stilleto heels, and pointed toes.

    Here's my take:
I think the skirt has the one main split on the side--but then in the bedroom scene it appears to have some "mini slits" at the bottom--kinda like and upside down flower. I had read that the dress is a "sea green" but it certainly looks blue to me (**I am not opening up an argument--I am stating my opinion and what I would do if I made it--nothing more :) ) The fabric is not smocked-it has a runched appearance, but has more body than a crinkle fabric. The fabric appears to me to be Ottoman (Ottoman is a fabric that has some lycra to it--it is thicker than a swimsuit fabric--but not like a cotton lycra. It has a very distinct look and feel to it. It has a pattern to it that looks like it is crinkly--but the fabric is not crunched  make sense? Anyways it has nice weight and body and texture and that it my top contender) That type of fabric would give the nice snug fit in the top, sleeves and hips but also would drape nicely. It is also dyeable.

The cloak to me has the appearance of a panne velvet--because of the short velvet nap look and also the sheen. However, the weight of most panne' is a little too heavy and drapey and doesn't like to float well. Most of the velour and velveteen in my area have no sheen at all. Her cape tends to float on air and that gives me the idea it is not in the velvet family at all--Must research more :)

Granted I have not researched this dress a lot--If I look at it and change my tune--I will let ya'll know :) :)

It sure is pretty though--shame it was cut!

So this dress is seagreen, right? Well why does it look greyish-blue in this picture then?

That's actually explained in a bit of detail on some of the previous pages.

It has to do with the lighting and color transfer on film -- Just like the whole white/light blue debate for the Tatooine arrival dress.

FERD mentioned a while back that this is quite common in theatrical costumes. For example, the Titanic "jump dress" looks red and black on film, but in actuality was many many multiple colors (blue, green, etc.)

It all comes down to real life vs. reel life.

Yeah, that's true with all movies. They all look different on film. Anyways, I have another comment that some of you may have seen already about the skirt. It definitely is a wrap skirt. You can see it in this picture: http://www.natalieportman.com/temp/swep2/ep2%20dvd%20-%20padme's%20parent's%20house%20-%20deleted%20scene/ep2_dvd_padme_parents_house_deleted_scene-8.jpg

And if you have Microsoft XP (I have it at school, that's why I noticed this) you can enlarge the picture right on that site to see a bigger clearer copy of it. You can see where the front of the wrap around sirt ends.

Thought I'd throw that out there. :)

I have to say, I've seen the deleted scenes, and this is Padme's best dress. She looks fantastic in it (Of course, she'd look better out of it!) :p

    QueenLaniAmidala--thanks for the details!

WRT colors in real life versus on the film.....I tend to like making things to be as true to detail as possible, but if you make costumes as they truly are, and not as they appear to be to others, there is a risk that people will either not recognize the costume, or think you made a mistake. :~D I'd tend on this one to go for how it appears to look in the DVD.

(And I second the thought that the top is way too, uh.....unsupportive. They really should have been able to do something about that!)

What! Page three? This costume doesn't deserve that...

Anyways, I was looking around at my local JoAnn's, and found crinkly fabric that is the exact same color as this dress. The only problem is, it's not as crinkly as the fabric used in the movie. So my options are to either wait for different fabric (which I doubt will ever come to this JoAnn's, it's a pretty crappy store by us...lol), just use this fabric and have it be 'unique' to me, or find some way of crinkling it more. Is that even possible? What do you guys think?

What do people think about attaching one of those stiff, foam bras (front part ie cups & support only) into the front and maybe sewing some kind of elastic into the two tails that go down the back? The fabric could be sewn over the bra in such a way that isn't obvious.

I'm just trying to think of a way to alter it a little to keep the look while allowing some of us bustier girls a chance to wear it.

QLA you nailed the color dead on. Very nice!

I'm about to start this costume myself. I havnt made any costumes since October, so its time for me to get out the ol' sewing machine and start.

Of course money and fabric would help.

Anyone have any ideas on the fabric texture? Anyone know any places online?
