Yup. Sad to say, but I think the days of Ortiz being a special, crazy-clutch player are gone. I just hope he has a few big time hits left in his bat for the next 3 weeks.

I bet he can do the Pedro 2001-2004 routine of getting injured sometimes, playing pretty well most of the time he's healthy, and coming up big a few times. And I'll be damned if I don't love the guy as much as I can love a guy I'll never meet.

Well, last year I was living with a friend who was used to me gasping and squealing and groaning and yelling during Red Sox games. Then I moved to an apartment with a different friend and no one warned her about how I get. Therefore, inning 9 came around and she came to the door, knocking frantically because I kept screaming hysterically for joy and she thought I'd caught fire. GO SOX! My desk space at work now has my picture of my friend's sons in Red Sox shirts, my Red Sox towel and, of course, my '99 All-Star Game baseball. So what if they're next to my lip gloss and daisies?

Okay, so it may be weird to mix musicals and the Red Sox, but I wrote this in tribute to our boys. It's based on "One Day More" from Les Mis. Try to ignore the fact that usually they have girls singing some of these parts:

    FRANCONA:

    One day more
    Another day another ALC
    this never-ending road to infamy
I've led this team throughout my prime
we'll win it all a second time
    One day more

    MASTERSON:
I did not pitch much til today
I hope the Rays end what they have started

    PAPELBON
All dancing freaks should join the fray
so we can leave Tampa broken-hearted

    VARITEK:
One more day all on my own

    RED SOX NATION:
    Will we ever win again

    ORTIZ:
One more day of Yank-fans swearing

    RSN:
We were born to support you!

    LOWELL:
What success I might have known

    RSN:
And we swear we will be true

    LOWELL:
But my strained oblique would tear

    YOUK:
One more day before the game

    FREE AGENTS:
Do I go where Manny goes?

    YOUK:
At Fenway Park or somewhere southward

    FREE AGENTS:
    Shall I spend another year

    YOUK:
    Tampa Bay's fielding is lame

    FREE AGENTS:
Do I stay and do I dare

    YOUK:
    Yes, we'll take our victory!

    ALL:

    The time is now
    The lineup's here

    FRANCONA:

    ONE DAY MORE!

    MADDON:
    One more day to domination
We will crush them from the start
We'll be ready for the BoSox
They will see that we've got heart!

    BAY:
    Watch me slide with luck

    DICE-K:
    Watch 'em drop the ball

    ELLSBURY:
You can bet I'll have some luck fielding against the wall

    ORTIZ:
    RBIs galore

    VARITEK:
    Strike-outs, balls and such

    MASTERSON:
    I'm the relief pitcher
    and I don't miss...much!

    RED SOX:
One day more in the post-season

    FANS:
    Raise the Series trophy high

    RED SOX:
    We'll show them Francona's king!

    FANS:
Every fan will be a king!

    RED SOX:
There's World Series to be winning

    FANS:
There's new raffles to be won!

    RED SOX:
    Do you see Papelbon dancing?

    MANNY:
I wish I'd stayed and played with you!

    FRANCONA:
    ONE DAY MORE!

    MASTERSON:
I did not pitch much til today
I hope the Rays end what they have started

    PAPELBON
All dancing freaks should join the fray
so we can leave Tampa broken-hearted

    MASTERSON:

    FRANCONA:

Tomorrow we will join the fray
And you'll see us win on GameDay

    ALL:
Tomorrow we'll discover if we will have won the war
    Seven more games
    One more win
    One day more!

    Sox win game 1!

I hope Beckett is in top form for game 2.

    Awesome song.[face_laugh]

Good win for the Sox. If Dice-K would cut his walks down, he'd be the best pitcher in the league. Still, gotta love Youk, and Lowrie providing again is nice.

Dice-K is a 'heart-attack' pitcher is there ever was one. Great to get the opener and at worst walk out of Tampa with a split.

Lets see if Beckett can bounce back and steal another one before heading back to Fenway.[face_praying]

Beckett sucked. If he's not healthy he needs to get the heck out of the rotation. Paul Byrd could have given them a better performance last night.

Don't know why Francona went with Timlin last night. Though for sure Byrd was going to come in. As soon as I saw that old fossil on the hill I knew the game was over.

Going back to Boston with a split is still nice. Just hope blowing the chance to go home 2 up won't come back to haunt them.

I think Tito was playing for the long haul with that one. He figured that Timlin might be able to hold them, but that preserving Papelbon's strength was more important. That might have bought the Sox an extra two innings from Paps for the home stand.

    I believe in Jon Lester.

Tonight is exactly why I wanted Wake to pitch in game 2 down in Tampa. Now we have him for game 4 and it's that time of year when his knuckler loses movement. Beach balls over the plate...

Either way, the Sox pitching staff has given up a ton of runs the last two games. [face_plain]

I don't. Never have, never will. What will be interesting to see is if Francona uses a short leash with the guy like he did during the regular season. The thing about Wake is if he loses it, it happens fast and he ain't getting it back. He's the type of pitcher who can get the 1st 2 outs of an inning and in the blink of an eye the other team can be putting up 3+ runs in the same inning.

I also don't believe in Varitek or Papi. I know Ortiz is hurt, but if you can't swing the bat, sit down and let someone else. At this point I'd rather have Casey up there hitting singles than watching Ortiz pop up to shallow RF every time.

Tek is the weakest link. He needs to go at the end of the season. It should be the teams #1 priority to find themselves a new starting catcher. They have the minor league depth, use some of it to pry a catcher away from a non-contending team.

Ortiz, Tek and Ellsbury are 0 for the series so far. [face_plain]

And yes, I'm getting tired of watching the whole lineup swinging for the fences every at bat. They just did not produce runs yesterday.
