A friend of mine pointed out the hilarious fact to me during the 1997 viewing of RETURN OF THE JEDI SPECIAL EDITION that Emperor Palpatine looks very much like an aged Dr. Bellows from the 1960's series I DREAM OF JEANNIE! 8-} I had to laugh over this becasue it is so true! [face_laugh] Just watch the scenes where Luke is brought before the Emperor by Vader. It is Dr. Bellows! [face_laugh] [face_laugh]

During the viewing of the film, we made lots of hilariously funny quotes of Dr. Bellows during the Emperor's scenes (all in fun of course, we both love the movie to death ;)). "Major Nelson, what is the meaning of this?", "Snow...in July??". Ever since then, we have referred to the Emperor as "Emperor Bellows"! [face_laugh]

This past weekend, TV Land showed a marathon of I DREAM OF JEANNIE and the Emperor jokes resurfaced yet again. This time we were quoting lines from the Emperor during scenes with Dr. Bellows! "...there it will stay until called for.", "As you can see, my young apprentice, your friends have failed.", and "So be it Jedi"! [face_laugh]

    So for anyone who ever wondered what Senator Palpatine's whole name was, I submit to you Alfred Palpatine Bellows! 8-}

This is a humor thread, so if anyone wants to elaborate on how Dr. Bellows became Emperor of the galaxy, feel free! My friend and I have concocted our own theory, but I will save that for later if enough people are interested in this silly thread! :) Do you have anyone else in the STAR WARS universe that you think resembles someone from your favorite television series???? Tell us about it here!

P.S. Ian McDiarmid could play Dr. Bellows in a movie version of I DREAM OF JEANNIE!!! [face_shocked]

It went unnoticed by me for years too. I could not believe that I had never noticed it before when my friend pointed it out! [face_laugh] Hayden Rorke (the cool actor responsible for the bewildered Dr. Bellows} could have played the Emperor back in the day if Ian McDiarmid wasn't available! [face_shocked]

How did Dr. Bellows become Emperor of the galaxy? Well, after being made to look clueless so many times, his feeble little mind could take no more. He broke into Major Nelson's house and stole Jeannie's bottle, then wished himself to a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. After wishing for superpowers, he set about becoming a tyrannical despot to make himself feel better for looking like an idiot in front of General Peterson so many times.

As for characters resembling other characters, sometimes I swear that I can faintly hear Luke Skywalker's voice in that of the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series.

That was great Esplin9466, I love your hilarious ideas on how Dr. Bellows became Emperor of the galaxy far far away! [face_laugh] [face_laugh] That is vaguely similar to the story concocted by my friend and I.

After viewing an episode of I DREAM OF JEANNIE in which Jeannie gives all of her powers to Major Nelson (without his knowledge of course) for 24 hours, we were inspired by this idea. After being palgued by every word he speaks coming true, and believing Jeannie is behind it, he actually wishes that Dr. Bellows had all of his problems. This simple wish transfers all of the powers of Jeannie to Dr. Bellows himself, without his knowledge! Major Nelson, after discovering what has transpired, must trick Dr. Bellows into wishing his powers back to Major Nelson without his becoming aware of having them. Hilarity ensues! [face_laugh] Very funny episode I must say. [face_laugh] [face_laugh]

We believe that after careful consideration of all things that have happened to him in the past, coupled together with the fact that his own comments came true for a short while before Major Nelson interfered, Dr. Bellows pieces the whole mystery together. This happens years later of course, after the Major and Jeannie are married.

Having had the ultimate power at his fingertips, Dr. Bellows knew that he could no longer be content with anything that the confines of the Earth had to offer. In a maniacal attempt to steal Jeannie away from her master, Jeannie was forced to blink Dr. Bellows to a galaxy far far away so that he could no longer cause anyone trouble. Little did Jeannie know of Midi-Chlorians, the fact that Dr. Bellows happened to possess a few, and the consequences that it would have for this galactic society long ago!

Upon learning of the force and its potential unlimited powers, Dr. Bellows knew that he no longer needed a Jeannie. Putting all of his NASA skills to the best of use, he studied the ancient Sith teachings and became a Master of the long defunct sect. He then adopted the name of Palpatine and set out on a journey to become the top political figure in the Republic, manipulating all who crossed his path. the stage was set for the ultimate power to be his again at long last!

"As for characters resembling other characters, sometimes I swear that I can faintly hear Luke Skywalker's voice in that of the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series"

Joker: "I'll never join you! That's not true Batman, that's impossible...NOOOOOOOO, NOOOOOOO"

That Joker thing's no coincidence--Mark Hamill did the Joker's voice in the Batman cartoons! He's actually done a lot of voice work, I guess since his face became soooo recognizable... ;)

    Those are some funny theories.

I think the former Chancellor Finis Valorum looks suspiciously similar to the Kryptonian criminal known as General Zod.

    Jeannie, fresh as a daisy!
Just love how she obeys me, does things that just amaze me so.
She smiles. Presto! The rain goes.
She blinks. Up come the rainbows!
Cars stop, even the train goes slow...When she goes by!
She paints sunshine on every rafter, sprinkles the air with laughter. We're close as a quarter after three.
    There's no one like Jeannie.
I'll introduce 'er to you, but it's no use, sir, 'cause my Jeannie's in love with me!
