Palpatine=Sidious ... its so obvious!

I knew from the start that Palpatine was Sidious. The clone theory made me smile because it was too complicated and didn't have anything to do with the story. The Emperor in the OT was had a political affiliation combined with the master of the dark side of the Force. Only Darth Sidious and Chancellor Palpatine could bridge into that one character.

 

I watched all the prequels this weekend with my sister and she hadn't seen them nor the OT. So when Palpatine turns out to be Darth Sidious himself she said, and I quote:
''Huh?! But he's such a nice guy!''
So it's not that obvious for you when you don't know anything about Starwars,

Wow! I guess knowledge of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi make all the difference; this is the most compelling arguement I have heard yet for watching the PT first.

People were actually SURPRISED or DIDN'T know?

They didn't know it was the same actor? Come OOOON!

I thought that everyone (besides kids) knew that from the start?

 

Aw, and I was hoping to finally be able to read the essay...

 

This is the strangest thread to read of all-time now.

 

Everyone knows that Luke is Darth Vader's son and that Anakin changes into Vader. It's quoted or explained in many TV-Programs and even movies.
But if you haven't seen Starwars before and you don't know anything about the actors it's not that easy to see Palpatine is Sidious.

The people with their clone theory were wrong all along, and the knew it.

They really didn't believe it, look back at some of the crazy arguments... its amazing.

In fact I believe one of those "cloners" is actually a mod now. Imagine that!

 

Yea Separatists, my sister who is 20 saw ROTS and I came in and watched bits and pieces with her and she had no clue about him. She thought it was crazy when he killed the Jedi. And I think somehow after she found out Palps was bad she didnt know he was Sidious. After the scene where Anakin has been named Vader she asked if he was the emporor. DUh. But she hadnt seen ep 2 in 3 years and 1 in like six so I dont blame her for not really knowing much about sidious.

 

We're talking avid Star Wars fans here. Your sister is an understandable case, it's just insane to see fans who should be smarter than that saying Palpatine and Sidious are two different beings altogether.

 

It's kinda funny reading through some of those old posts.

 

Not knowing that Lord Sidious and Chancellor Palpatine for some people weren't good enough so they came up with this eccentric theories that didn't make sense. The one that tickled me the most was Palpatine and Sidious being twins.

I guess Darth Maul and Obi-Wan were twins also.

Seriously though, how could people deny Palpatine = Sidious?

 

Yeah I always thought they were the same, the only semi intersting idea I ever heard to the contrary was that Sidious had a clone of himself, Palapatine, who he was influencing in the Senate, and then he was going to kill him and replace him. But even at the time I was like...why not just do that yourself? But it was kind of neat because it went with the whole idea of clones and such, and this was before Episode 2 so we were not really sure what the deal was going to be with that.

 

of course Palpatine is Sidious.

When I lurked around here throughout 2000 and 2001 there were still people who did not believe Sidious=Palpatine


I think with AOTC's release, most of these people gave up their theory

See, that is obvious to us fans, but not as easily for the mainstream audience. I know this first hand because no one in my family (who didn't know the name 'Palpatine') had any idea that palps was going to be the evil Emperor.

It was not the worst kept secret, it is more a secret for future generations who watch the saga chronologically. It's not quite on par with "I am your father" revelation, but it's pretty damn close to some and that should be respected and commended to Lucas.
