Why didn't anyone wonder about Palpatine's methods and actions earlier? In TPM, wouldn't his opinions about Supreme Chancellor Vallorum at the time have been heard by someone besides Padme? And AOTC, he all but implies he wants the emerancy powers granted to him. He does say that he'd keep the Republic together any way he could. And in the final chapter of Star Wars Clone Wars, wouldn't they Jedi guarding have noticed that he wasn't worried about Grieveous? And in ROTS, why did the Senate so readily accept Palpatine's claim of a Jedi uprising? Even Padme believed him for a short time. I mean, the Jedi were with the Old republic since its beginning, and then at the end of the Clone Wars, everyones like "Oh, the Jedi are bad. Hooray for their demise."

Well, he has known padme for a long time and her husband is great friends with him. As for the senators, almost all of them were corrupt and would accept anything he did. the jedi propbaly figured he was just overconfident but they did suspect him of being under the influence of darth sidious. Its in the ROTS book.

Well the proof would be right in front of the senators. The chancellor is horribly disfigured as he claims as a result of the Jedi and further proof would be A) Mace's body crashing onto a passing speeder having fallen out of the chancellor's office. Jedi defense - Oh he was in Palpatine's office sure, but it was only a banana accident. B) Anakin/Vader could have "testified" as to what happened to Palpatine as a witness (and then later to himself).
