San Diego, CA Parallels Between AOTC and ESB

1. During the duel with Yoda, when Dooku ripped equipment off the wall to throw at Yoda, the two pieces looked EXACTLY like the ones Vader hurled at Luke.

2. Anakin discovers his friend is in trouble, and disregards his assignment to rescue Obi-Wan. In ESB Luke discovers his friends are in trouble, and disregards his training to rescue them.

3. Anakin looses hand/arm / Luke looses hand.

4. Anakin is tested at the Tusken Raider camp and fails. Luke is tested at the cave and fails.

5. Anakin looses his battle with Dooku, and must be rescued by Yoda / Luke looses his battle with Vader and must be rescued by Leia.

6. Threepio gets busted up and has to be put right again by Artoo in both.

7. When Dooku is about to strike down Obi-wan, Anakin jumps in between and blocks him with his lightsaber/ in ROTJ, Luke is about to strike down the Emperor and
Vader blocks him with his lightsaber.

8. Obi-wan in the club cutting down Zam/
Obi-wan in the cantina (ANH) cutting down Ponda Baba.

9. When Anakin and Padme are on the ledge at geonosis/
in ANH when luke & leia are on the ledge

10. R2's message FROM Obi-wan/ R2's message TO Obi-wan

11. When R2 goes off and C3PO yells at him not to (on Geonosis)/ when R2 goes off on Tatooine in ANH

12. Obi-wan in Asteroid field being chased by Jango Fett/ Han in Asteroid field being chased by Imps and Boba Fett

13. Padme brought Anakin the same blue milk as Beru brought Luke in ANH.

14. Dooku asks Obi-wan to join him like Vader asked Luke both to help them defeat the Sith.

15. Anakin stares out at the double sunset on Tatooine, as Luke did in ANH.

16. The final shot in AOTC is the final shot in ESB.

The problem with number 4 is that Anakin lets Obi-Wan convince him that his nightmare will "go away" and he hesitates to act on his vision. While in ESB, Luke does not hesitate to help his friends.

I think that Anakin finding his mother in time to watch her die will be part of the chain of events that cause him to turn away from Obi-Wan and the Jedi.
