SEGA and Paramount finalize deal for Sonic the Hedgehog film

Just yesterday, we learned that the Sonic the Hedgehog film will open in theaters on November 15, 2019. Now, SEGA of America has announced it has reached a final agreement with Paramount Pictures to co-produce the movie.
This move represents an important next-step in the expansion of the Sonic the Hedgehog IP, bringing the character to new audiences globally. As part of the IP strategy for Sonic the Hedgehog, SEGA Group has been working to expand this character beyond the video game market to become an entertainment franchise. Recently, Sonic has appeared as an animated character on television, consumer products, console and mobile games, and more.

So are they actually going to call the villain Doctor Robotnik or "Eggman"? Throughout all of the Sonic games I had for my Sega Genesis, he was always called Robotnik. In the cartoons (at least the one with the Urkel star) he was also Robotnik. I think it was the comics that referred to him as "Eggman" for some reason.

 

The English instruction manual for his debut game Sonic the Hedgehog described the character's full name as "Doctor Ivo Robotnik",[3] while the original Japanese version's instruction manual for the same game called him "Doctor Eggman". It was not until 1999's Sonic Adventure that the character was called both "Eggman" and "Robotnik" in the English version,[4] with all following English releases to date referring to him as "Doctor Eggman". Yuji Naka has explained that "Robotnik" is the character's true last name while "Eggman" is a nickname taken after his shape.[5] Since then, English language sources have listed his identity as Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik at least once,[6] and has recognized both the first name Ivo and the last name Robotnik as recently as 2016 in the videogames and 2015 in social media.

I can't remember the last live action / cartoon movie I liked. Maybe Roger Rabbit, so I don't have high hopes for this. Smurfs was pretty horrible.

Also, who will Marsden be playing? Robotnik?

 

Does the Lego Movie count as a live action/cartoon? I didn't think Osmosis Jones was terrible.

So in this version Robotnik is going to threaten the woodland animals by not vaccinating them against deadly diseases?

 

No, Jim Carrey is actually going to assume the name and identity of Dr. Robotnik throughout the whole time that they film in some bizarre form of method acting. Then they'll make a Netflix documentary 18 years after the film about it called Jim and Eggy: The Great Beyond.
