Just a thought here.

We know the Games forum needs a social thread, or else all redundant threads soon become chats and upset the n00bs who start them.

The Force Boat has attained legendary status due to Lucasarts putting it into one of their games.

However Mods get upset at Jedi Bib and other regulars (to a lesser extent) when he demands people vacate his thread and generally bosses them around rudely.

And due to this rude behaviour (which looks worse from the outside than it actually is), eventually Force Boats get locked.

Here's my proposal.

Bib's Force Boat partè (RPG)

Yes, a Role Playing Game thread for the Games forum, where the rules are explicitely set out in the initial page (and perhaps reposted every 200 posts or so)

The rules would go something like;

Young Captain Jedi Bib, the meanest, most ruthless pirate ever to plunder ForceBeer on the high-seas takes his trusty Force Boat out into uncharted waters, with his ever-vigilant crew of Dan, Jedi-Corleone, jp-30 and PreacherBoy. Cabin boy barnsthefatjedi keeps the decks clean and the steins full.

The crew ponder the mysteries of life while on deck, and the mysteries of BLUE MILK when going down below.

Being full of frivolty, fun, and forcebeer, the Force Boat is a desirable destination for potential partygoers and evil enemy pirates everywhere. The crew must be on guard 24 hours a day. When new people pull alongside the Force Boat and board, who knows whether they'll be commanded to SWAB TEH DECKS, POLISH TEH SNAKS or GET THE HELL OFF TEH BOAT?

It's the risk you take when you post here. Can you survive the cutting wrath of Captain Jedi Bib and his cut-throat cronies?

Well, it sounds like more fun that the GAUNTLET "survive the random numbers" game, and perhaps Mods will finally understand that getting yelled at by Bib is just part of the game.

Not to sound naive, but.... couldn't you just make a social thread and ignore the newbies instead of yelling at them? or (gasp!) be nice to them?

I think just to spite the Administration and their unjustifiable prejudice attitude to anything related to the "Force Boat" we should rename it to the "Force Vessel" with new properties including morphing power into other types of vessels.

Down with intolerance!

EDIT: PB, what are the rules governing RPGs in forums? Do we need mod approval, or can we just launch this baby?

 

One of the Admins is going to read the phrase "Force Boat" and flip out, calling us all the root evil in society.

 

Yes, yes, we can rename it to Bib's Force Vessel èxcursion or whatever.

But are there any in-forum-RPG rules we need to be aware of? I've never opened an RPG thread in my life.

 

You know Games does have an RPG forum.

I don't know. I think we could pull it off as long as the words "force" and "boat" weren't used in the same sentence. I can't protect you guys from prejudice directly anymore.

 

Sweet. Maybe the RPG should be created in a couple of days once the old Force Boat thread has sunk from the first page. Or sooner if BountyHunter2999 helps push everything down.

It's sad being labelled as a trouble-maker by administraton, just because one enjoys posting in a social thread. A social thread whose name has been immortalised in a Star Wars Game no less.

Granted, Baddie wasn't going to be helpful, but why ban Goodie? Surely the logic is that if you keep just Goodie, I stay good?

I also think this wouldn't be a horrible off idea. You can still call it the forceboat and give a history of the forceboat, the first thread and its success and who was related to it. But instead of keeping it a sort of RP thing, just make it an open social thread. No ranks or preference, just a place where newbies and oldbies and everyone in between can post w/o fear of insult and hostility.

 

Seems to me that you'd be better off in JCC if you're looking for that kind of thing.
