No, we're just sticking with the spiffy new banner that Mike made. We're still waiting for it to go up. Apparently they're having issues with FTP access.

Starting left guard Joe Andruzzi signed a four-year contract today with the Cleveland Browns, so now the offensive line has taken a hit. :(

On the bright side, though, according to a report on MSNBC.com (and also on ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption"), the Pats are close to coming to terms with two-time Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady on a long-term extension that will make him one of the top three paid quarterbacks in the NFL. The deal is not, however, expected to surpass the record contract signed by Colts' quarterback Peyton Manning last offseason.

Evie, the Philly banner is the work of our own DarthWormie (Who would you expect for these things? ;) ). I don't know if there's a Patriots banner about to go up here, though. Rosie probably knows more about it than I do.

If there's one guy that the Pats need to sign to a long-term deal it's Brady. Even if it's just on the offensive side of the line, he's the center of that team.

I'm surprised to see Andruzzi go, but good luck to him in Cleveland just the same =D=.

The Pats have had another casualty in their offense. David Patten has signed a contract with the Redskins. This is just another example of how important that it is for the Pats to re-sign Troy Brown. It's too bad that Mason went to Baltimore instead of coming here, that would have offset this turn of events anyway.

Michael Felger's Patriots Notes column in today's Herald, other than noting Patten's signing w/ the Redskins, says the Patriots have completed a deal w/ the Cardinals that will bring cornerback Duane Starks here for a third-round draft pick. This should at least fill one hole. :D

Continuing to round out the coaching staff for this coming season, the Patriots announced today that they have hired longtime Dan Reeves assistant Pete Mangurian as tight ends coach. Mangurian's last job was as the Falcons' offensive coordinator in 2003. In that position, he probably gained insight on Michael Vick's strengths and weaknesses. The Patriots play the Falcons this season, so such knowledge will be very valuable when it comes time to prepare to play them.

Restricted free agent guard Stephen Neal decided to sign his tender offer yesterday, so at least one player at the guard position will be back. We know Joe Andruzzi's gone and it remains to be seen if Tom Ashworth will return from his injury, so this signing was big.

Patriots agree to terms with former Chargers WR Tim Dwight

Not a bad signing, but, as you will see in the article, he's a bit of a gamble, as he's injury prone. Dwight was a return specialist last season, so he's basically insurance in case the Pats can't agree w/ Troy Brown on a new contract.

At least with Dwight on the team that can free up Bethel Johnson for more time as a WR. Hopefully Dwight's body will hold up for the duration of the season.

There is an unconfirmed report this morning that LB Tedy Bruschi went back to the hospital to have surgery to repair a hole in his heart that the report says may have led to his recent stroke. The Patriots have officially said that Bruschi went back to the hospital for additional treatment, but they did not say it was surgery.

On the bright side, the Patriots re-signed guard Tom Ashworth to a new deal yesterday, meaning that they think Ashworth has fully recovered from his season-ending knee injury. :D

I think that this is just another sign that Bruschi's time as a Patriot and as a player in the NFL are over. It's a tough thing to imagine but his family is counting on him to be there for them, which is more important than Pats fans wanting him to keep playing football.

The NFL announced last night that the Patriots will once again be kicking off the NFL regular season. On Thursday, Sept. 8, the Pats will raise their 3rd SB Champion banner when the host the Oakland Raiders at 9:00PM.

The other "Prime Time" games for opening weekend will be the Colts vs Ravens on Sunday night and Philly vs Atlanta on MNF.

Believe it or not, Opening Night is less than 5 and a half months away!

Talks have picked up between Ty Law and the Pats this week. From what I heard on the news last night the Chiefs offered Law a deal similar to what the Pats offered last year but he turned it down.

Also, on the Teddy Bruschi front, it still hasn't been confirmed yet but Bruschi hired an agent and is seriously thinking of taking the 2005 season off to monitor his recovery and determine wether or not he can still play pro football. A smart move in my opinion.

Good news on both counts, actually, J_O. I don't think Bruschi should play unless he's 100% sure he's recovered from everything.

Also, WEEI reported this morning that VP of Football Operations Scott Pioli has been named NFL Executive of the Year for the 2nd year in a row.

Neither do I. Unfortunately with a stroke you never really know if you're "cured", there's always a chance it could happen again.

Did you guys hear the report that 3 members of the 2003 Carolina Panthers were allegedly prescribed steroids by a South Carolina doctor during that season? This is comical...you can't even beat the Patriots when you cheat! We rule! [face_laugh] :D

Yeah and two of them were offensive lineman . With two of their starters gone for 4 games, I know I'm not picking Delhomme as my FFL starter this year [face_beatup].

Aside from the report on Bruschi and how he's doing it's been pretty quiet on the Foxboro front lately. Things are still up in the air about Ty Law and Troy Brown, not to mention wether or not Belicheck will assume the role of Offensive co-ordinator or the Pats still intend to bring someone in to fill the spot.

I believe Belicheck mentioned in a statement maybe a month or so ago that all of the coaching positions he plans to fill have already been filled. I would take that as meaning that he plans on assuming the role as Offensive Coord.

After failing to get Derrick Mason, the Patriots are continuing to look for potential gamebreakers, this time signing Bears WR David Terrell, a college teammate of Tom Brady's. Looks more and more like Troy Brown's future with the Patriots is questionable.

Interesting pick-up for the Pats. If Terrell ever lives up to his promise, this could be another steal for Belicheck and Pioli. Sad to say though that that this pick-up, as well as the Tim Dwight signing pretty much shuts the door on the return of my all-time favorite Patriot, Trow Brown :(

It's definately looking like they won't be resigning Brown after all. It really is too bad but I'm sure that if he chooses to continue playing he'll find a team that could really use him to his full potential as the Pats did this past season.

The Patriots needed to get younger at linebacker, and they've apparently taken a step in that direction by signing free agent linebacker Monty Beisel, a converted defensive end who was a 2001 draft pick of the Chiefs. According to Mike Reiss' blog on BostonHerald.com, he'll fill the role that Roman Phifer filled with the team last season.
