Of course it's better. It's a "fresh and stylized take on the assassin genre". The movie release said so.

It's really fun, but action-wise it peaks with the first two set pieces. It's not that the rest are bad mind you (they're pretty well done), but those first two, WOW.

 

You should all get Payday 2 so you can play as Keanu Reeves:

Movie is pretty awesome, Adrianne Paliacki kicking the bejesus outta people, including Reeves, is very entertaining. Very stylishly done overall, and a lot of decent humour as well along with genuine emotional and badass moments, which is what you usually don't expect from most recent action movies. Theon Greyjoy / Reek is in the movie to basically be beat up, which I generally enjoy. And Reeves absolutely nails the "People keep asking me if I'm back" bit. Great little flick.

 

It's an awesome movie. It's got a lot of wit to it. I laughed out loud several times. And the action is just phenomenal. The very first action sequence is just wonderful and the Red Circle sequence is phenomenal. The action is fast and incredibly well choreographed. It's shot at a very fast pace, but it also keeps the geography clear and lets you actually see the choreography instead of just pummeling you with fast cuts and shaky cam. Michael Nykvist really steals the show as the main baddy. And the script creates a world that feels real and you genuinely feel that these people have a shared history, unlike in a lot of these movies. This is a superlative action movie, head and shoulders above most of the crap that comes out. I was shocked to hear the good buzz; I was even more shocked to find myself echoing said good buzz even more effusively after watching the film. I give it a Highly Recommended.

 

Yeah, it's a great example of world building from smaller to bigger, the whole theme of "John Wick is back" actually plays out in small bits over the course of the movie and it's really interesting how in-depth the whole criminal underworld, especially the history between the characters, that we're only seeing pieces of but is more than enough. Most action movies are just "who the hell is that guy" as a random person shows up and stomps through the baddies but in this one there is a lot of things that happened off screen that gives the world life.

 

You've seen The Lord of the Rings, right? You know Jaypes lives there, and probably had to deal with a balrog or something.

 

hmm. i like what you were saying about the fight choreography, rogue and a one and a one over a two. i've had more than enough of the what-am-i-looking-at spaz cutting fights.

 

I never understood the point of that frantic camera work for fights. Why work out an excellent fight scene routine if you intent to ruin it with poor cinematography and editing?
