Luke is baby sitting and Mara stops over and Jacen and Jaina try to get Mara on their side for a virtual game of Mandos & Bounty Hunters.

Mara grins and dives right into the spirit of the game. "Give it your best shot." She challenges. "You better be able to aim straight or I'll take you out."

"Have mercy on us, Aunt Mara." Jaina pleads and blushes. It was what she'd always called Mara secretly, even though everyone insisted Luke and Mara were "just friends."

Mara glares at Luke. "What have you been telling your family, Skywalker?" She thinks. "Are you imagining things between us?"

He looks as surprised as she feels, but not unhappy.

After the kids are put to bed, Mara faces Luke squarely.

"I promise, Mara, I never implied anything." Not because I wouldn't like to. He thinks before he can stop it.

Something of this must have shown in his blue eyes because Mara's eyes narrow.

She smirks. "Guess you're the one for it then."

"For what?" Luke asks.

"Karrde wants me to look for an associate of his, a former partner, named Jorj Car'das. He suggested Lando, but I turned that down flat! I have to go undercover & Karrde suggested I go with someone I could pose as a couple with. How about it?"

Luke flushes, feeling a thrill of excitement. "Sure." He agrees. Something tells him he won't have to do much play-acting.

I much prefer Luke over Lando. When Lando and Mara went undercover it was purely business for Mara. With Luke...well maybe she can mix business with pleasure.

 

Luke sure will be an interesting partner for Mara, more pleasure than business I think

Part 2:

Mara did not know what to make of anything. Luke was getting way too into character. He'd nibble her earlobe and stroke her thigh, all to convey the impression they were a couple.

Mara really tried to be annoyed. But what she was ... was all tingly.

She'd enticed and flirted all for the sake of a mission, but that had always left her hormones and heart strictly unaffected.

So, she had assumed, this would be of the same category. Not karking close!

Mara had known comradeship, anger, sadness, but the feelings she was starting to experience ... Were they what some would call attraction, even love?

How could you tell?

Perhaps, she decided, if something happened to Luke, or he started dating someone else, then she'd know.

the bad thing about that was: then it would be too late for the two of them.

No, Mara concluded, the time for realization better come beforehand.

Their mission was going well until the trail ran cold. It appeared Car'das wanted to vanish and probably take up a life of non-notoriety. That was fine with Mara. He was welcome to do so.

She sent Karrde an update and smirked across at Luke.

"Guess our little charade is over." She commented.

"I suppose." He remarked.

Definitely ... Mara was not imagining it: there was a wistful note.

"Hmm. You didn't enjoy our little play-acting, did you?" She demanded.

Luke gave a noncomittal shrug.

Mara laughed. "You're not fooling me. You cannot even lie with subtle nonverbals."

He blushed.
"I wouldn't mind if it weren't."

She raised a questioning eyebrow.

"A pretense." He elaborated. "I've been attracted to you since Myrkr, Mara." He confessed. "The more time we spend together, the stronger it gets."

Mara grimaced. She didn't have room or time for romantic entanglements. But apparently, such things didn't wait for the convenient moment.

Because from the way her heart was skipping beats, she was a goner, already.

When Luke kissed her, something inside melted and she found herself returning it with happy abandon.

When they breathlessly pulled apart, she grinned.

"That was better than I thought." Then she flushed. That had just slipped out!

Luke beamed. "Been thinking of us kissing, Mara?"

"That's not precisely what I said." She retorted.

He winked and kissed her again. A very effective way to have the 'last word.'

Love how you describe Mara liking of course all Luke's attention to her. She banters with him but she agrees readily when he begins to kiss

 

What?! You are having them getting together without Sith, Sentinel droids, or making him kidnap her!? Kids nowadays don't do anything the GFFA old fashion way.

Caught up at last! This is a series of 100% pure, gooey, Ny-inspired L/M mushiness that kinda crowned all the L/M fics I managed to read since yesterday. I should hang out in Beyond more often
