Way back at one of the original meetings there was talk of maybe the PFF working on a Fan Film. I was just wondering if that' still in the PFF's plans of things to do. If so, I'd like to audition as well as help with some prop building and whatnot.
    LP ;)
PS. I figure this isn't something that will happen for a while but I still thought I'd ask. Any comments?

I was going to bring this up on saturday. We had an idea for it, but I was thinking about something less ambitious for a first project.

Darth Vorpel had a viagra commercial routine that had us gasping for air at the line up because we were laughing so hard, so I was thinking about doing a "commercial" based on that. Or a music video for one of the star wars humor songs that I have.

Count me in, as well. I would love to do SOMETHING with my new video production degree besides look at it (although it is sort of pretty. :))

That is a great idea. With trying to get a PFF costitution written, T-shirts, the issues with dues, and the line up the officers have put that subject on the back burner. However, that shouldn't stop indivdual members from putting something together.

As I've said before, count me in. Good idea to start small. Even quality five minute film/video can be quite an undertaking and I've seen plenty of projects fall on the ground (even with the best of intentions) because of over ambitious crews who are unfamiliar with each other and the cost.

    Yea, I'm in.

FYI, if we were to do it it would still take a lot to make it, and Matt is right, it would have to be like 5 min or so, just for the first one. You need costumes (which we have :) ), lighting, sound, digital editing, and FX for blasters and sabers.

In terms of volunteering, I have a digital editing system on my computer, but it couldn't handle anything over ten minutes (at a time), and I don't have the software to do FX, perhaps sideshow could get a PC version of Studio DV 500 and Adobe After Effects, and Matt could teach me how to use a Windows based editing system?

We definitly should start small. Even five minutes can seem long once you get going. The last project I worked on was only a 2 1/2 minute promotional piece for a non-profit , and it about killed me. :D

If someone has the software, I am fairly proficient in AfterEffects and just about any digital editing program. (They are all pretty much the same, and once you've learned Avid, the rest are easy. :))

You know what would be kinda' cool is if we did a five to eight minute short film and left the ending with a kind of resolution, but a little bit of an opening for sequels at the end. That way if it's successful, we can expand the story. If not we have a good 5 minute film and thats it. Byt the way, if you've never watched any of them, stop by TFN's fan films. You might get some great ideas. One of my favorite short films is "Legacy of the Jedi".
    LP :)
PS. I think that story and good dialogue should come first! Let's deviate from the Star Wars norm!

Hell yea... But you think we could throw in the line, "I have a bad feeling about this."?

As if there could be a SW movie without that line!

As we're learning with our little in-progress video project, it's very easy to get more footage than you know what do with. We have what... 36 hours of footage for a planned half hour documentary. That is, however, a documentary which would vary in usable recorded footage.

Anyway... what's the best video software for a PC, since some of you guys know the stuff? I've been trying to... obtain... Premier 6 but it's been easier said than done.

I like Premiere. It can do almost everything the higher priced professional programs can do, but it's a little more user-friendly. It's not so great for editing audio, but there are lots of programs just for audio and once it's imported, it's fine.

Studio DV 500 (PC), my vote...

    Warning!!!, Apple propaganda ahead...

Or, sell your PC, and buy a G4/ Power MAC .

MAC is the leader in video editing software (home use), check out Final Cut Pro, hands down the best in the industry. Only draw back, you need about two+ 80 gig HDD, two 800 G4's, and about 1.5 gigs of RAM to take full advantage.

My iBook ranks in mighty fine, with 640MB of RAM and a powerhouse G3, but I still can't take advantage of Final Cut, without the G4, so I'm left with iMovie2.

    Yeah, what he said...(see above)

But if you are stuck in PC land and can afford the $ go for Premiere.

Both Final Cut Pro and Premiere come in student packages so if you work for a University or are a current student you can purchase them for a highly reduced price (Like $300 compared to the $1000 they normally cost) Avid also puts out a software that has a student priceing of $500 dollars but you had better know how to use it.

Ok, but before we get to the editing I have to second LORDPARSEC and endorse the writing and story as the most important thing to concentrate on at this point. Don't underestimate the power The Preproduction Process....

You're right...editing is a long time down the road, and preproduction is CRUCIAL!!!

The more planning done before anyone even looks through a lens, the easier every other step is. (Believe me, I have learned this the hard way. :D)

Maybe we could have a little meeting after the big meeting on Saturday for anyone who is interested in participating? (For anyone who can't make it, don't worry. :) No one will be left out.)

Yea, I got a little excited there with the tech end.

    I think a sub-meeting would be a great idea.

Perhaps the pre-production end should start with an assesment of things we have, or things we can get a hold of (in terms of props and locations) that way we can write a story that we can actually make.

I can help with the wrotting and the story line.
We can do a "commercial" or a "teaser". Sort of what Mell Brooks did at the end of History of the World Part I. There was never a Part 2, but we can do a 5 min trailor as if there was going to be for a Big Movie.
    Other angles--Empire's Most Wanted.
Or a propoganda film, like the did during WWII. About how well the Storm Troopers are doing. Or a recruitment fill fo the Storm Troopers. Insted of Uncle Sam wants you, we can say Darth Vader Wants You. All of these would not have to be longer than 5 min. I have other ideas. If you want them.

I love it!!! Great ideas above!!!

Hey, what about doing a short commercial about the lineup, as a "teaser" for the Eppy 3 Lineup? Or a brief teaser about the FF?

I'm all for doing this, and am more than willing to lend my RFT and Jedi costumes to the cause.

And I lvoe the idea of the Mel Brooks spoof. HOTW Part 1 was great!

Hehehe: Phoenix Fan Force 2: In Search of George. Or something silly like that...

I'm up for whatever really. I was watching some of the featuretes on the Ep. One DVD and one of my favorite ones is the two guys in the prop shop making Star Wars gadgets and so forth for George's approval... I wanna be one of those guys that gets to make weird props and so forth. Not just blasters but like food, cups, furniture, etc. ;p
