Phx Pics from the range....

Saturday I had the joy to be able to go to a joint USAF-US Army weapons shoot out at Florence. I got a few pics and thought I'd share them with my fellow firearms lovers in the FF.

We started out the morning by running the 9mm Combat Qualification Courst. Twice. Pop-up targets, moving forward downrange on targets, combat reloads, etc. It rocked. And I scored Expert both times, 260 out of a possible 300. I'll start to carry a 9mm later this week, probably.

Next, I got to go over and try a toy I never throught I'd get to shoot. The M203 40mm grenade launcher.

We were shooting at a tank 325 meters away with training rounds that produced a large orange mark when they hit. And the sucker kicked like a 12 guage on steroids. It rocked.

I was totally floored when I was told I'd get to shoot off 15 of these bad boys. Best of all, my first time shooting it, I nailed the top of the turret of the tank. I impressed my squad leader, a combat medic with time in Bosnia. And I outshot him with the other 14 rounds, too.

After the M203, I got to play with the following toys:

They are the M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) and the M60 (usually seen in Vietnam era movies). I got to shoot 550 rounds through the SAW and 600+ rounds through the "Pig". Just ask Choad about what they sound like. Sorry buddy, but I had to share the moment with someone who would appreciate the moment.

If you look carefully in this pic, you can see the targets I got to shoot up: Old trucks, tanks and large vehicles from about 300-500+ meters away.

Needless to say, I had a good time. It was fantastic to finally be able to rock and roll and blow through a lot of ammo, and I do mean a LOT!!! I also feel good, knowing that at least now I have some weapons familiarity and can shoot the heavier stuff, should the need ever arise. (Very unlikely, given where I work.) And of course, I'm happy about scoring expert on the 9mm. Now if someone breaks into my house, they might not like it too much.

Yes, I brought souveniers. Not many, but some.


And I got for myself a huge 7.62mm 1,200 round ammo case, and a smaller 15-round 40mm grenade ammo case.


There's another shoot in October --I'll see what I can get. They're twitchy about certain items, as I'm sure you can imagine.

 

Sweet! Almost makes me want to join up, just so I can play with the fun toys...almost...

 

Heh, don't join just for the toys. I've been on active duty for 9 months and that's the first time I've been able to use those weapons.



BTW, I have a few souveniers for anyone who wants them. It's not much, but something.
