Awww, jeez, I told you guys to forget you ever saw that! I was young and desperate, I needed the money!

Perhaps we could arrange a little pre TPM flick at the sunset cinema...

(by the way - I just beat Diablo II again with another character. Just thought I'd share.)

 

As I mentioned to Pinback had a prior appointment that takes weeks to re-arrange-specialist thing with urgent need could not get out of it. Nice to see those who attended had a great time. Hope one day to catch up with you.

 

What I missed it the postman one, oh man! I would have stay longer but my princess was calling me. I did promise her no later then 10:30, Boy did I blow that!

I had fun anyway, thanks for all that attended. And I manage to see a few movies I had never seen as well. Look forward to the TPM screening! CYA all there, I hope!

You know what's interesting about "Presidents' Day?" Our total budget was reported as $10,000US. The same amount "Knightquest" is reported to have cost! I know their Vader costume cost $2000, but I couldn't tell you how much the Aardvark Man suit cost. But I'll bet Joe Monroe didn't have the support of a Federal agency!

As for a screening, pre-TPM is out, we're looking at a possible new apartment right before we head over to King's Park. Interested parties are invited to our place for a screening with coffee and pudding (maybe even some low-grade hallucinogens donated by our next-door neighbor) after the evening's main feature.

 

Maybe soneil could invite his bro around for coffee too > that might help solve the problem >

 

Don't worry. He'll be at TPM with his kids. He just might take you up on that - even if he does have to work.

 

Well, you understand I can't really take any action against these scumbags before we leave for Newcastle, because if they realized we dobbed them in, they'd tear our place apart, sell or destroy all our stuff, and probably lie in wait with shotguns for our return.

We have a plan, but Soneil, I wouldn't mind at all talking to your brother about our options within the law.

Nothing's easy.

 

I don't know what was so embarrassing about that movie. Sure, the storyline kinda sucked, and with characters like 'Rodar the Kid' and 'Aardvark Man' you can't expect too much. But I thought your acting was superb, especially since you're not an actor. The cinematography wasn't bad either.

 

I think you should take that as a compliment Pinback. Take it as a compliment anyway!

 

Well...

Yeah, the cinematography was excellent, especially considering the DP has only one good eye! I'd say our production values were good, that's mostly due to the cooperation of those in charge of the locations, especially the State College and Bellefonte Post Offices. Those uniforms are genuine, I still have mine back at my folks' house, right down to the floppy hat and mail bag!

As for the script, it's important to keep in mind we were only one of 3 light-hearted/comedic productions authorized that year; have any of you ever sat through a student film festival?

DON'T!

There is nobody more angst-ridden, despondent and bitter than an aspiring filmmaker in a community college film course! This is the example I always use as the worst of this shamelessly self-indulgent and whiny creature: 1996, I attended the annual Canned Film Festival on the PSU campus. This one film consisted of nothing more than a pseudo-snuff movie of a female student (probably the writer/director/star), stripping off (sorry boys, no gratuitous T&A in this one), sitting in a bathtub, and slitting her wrists. The film literally pulses to a halt along with the dimming POV of our young suicide, complete with slowing heartbeat sound effects.

And that was all there was to it. No buildup, character development, aftermath or denoument. Just a snotty, "I'll kill myself and you'll all be sorry for not appreciating my genius" simulated suicide.

Now mulitiply that by 10 each year. At least we had a script. No, it wasn't comedy gold, but nor was it the self-indulgent crap wallow that's actually endorsed by the bitter, would-be Kubrics that make up the film faculty at dear old PSU. We were proudly stupid and juvenile!

As for my performance, I got lucky. Calvin and I had a lot in common when I auditioned; they gave me a page from somewhere in the middle, and asked me to give them my bead on Calvin. I told them that he constantly felt a pressure that could only be the thumb of God, squishing him down into the dirt. What I don't like about my performance was that I forgot it was supposed to be funny; I got a little too into Calvin's mindset but forgot to show that this kid had deep within him the guts to even have a dream, let alone pursue it. A good actor can take a mediocre script and make it gold; I didn't.

Plus, I forget sometimes how hard it was to get through that shoot in those conditions, so the obnoxious armchair Speilberg in me drives me to take potshots at the work that I did. So, yeah, it's not a classic, but show me another actor who'll lay on frozen pavement for 45 minutes without getting paid! I guess I'm saying I did okay for the little experience I had. I was really lucky to have that cast around me, especially Adam Welch, who played my buddy and devil-in-my-ear, Franco.

Lord, that's the most I've talked about that thing; ever, I think. For those of you that saw it, I just wanted to show you that yes, we could easily do that. If a tiny farm and football college will shell out $10,000, a group of die-hard SW fans could pull that kinda dough together; remember, none of the actors or crew of "Knightquest" got a dime, it all went up on screen. All it really takes, bottom line, is money, time and committment.

Sounds like fun, don't it? HAH!

 

Just tonight Sith_magician & I were talking about the club hosting a mini SW convention which I think would be a great start. It could possibly bring in some funds for the club, it would bring more exposure and possibly more members into the club, and at the very least - it would be fun. Once that's done, things like fan films could definitely become a reality.
Of course we still need to make things official. If we get to the movie early enough perhaps we could discuss things a little more. There's not really that much that needs to be done.

 

Yeah that sounds like a great idea. I know that the hardest thing in making my fan film is costumes! I haven't a clue, however if I can get blueprints of some cloaks and the like then my mum could easily put something together. She's a real whizz in that department.

What things do we still need to talk about soniel? Just so I can have think before I come!

 

Priness Lego knows more about the details than I do but we need to register the club with the govt department in charge (fair trading I think - they handle non-profit organisations too). The name has already been reserved for us. Once it's formal we can start making up official memberships, organise official club events and start fundraising (for conventions, fan films etc). We couldn't really do fund raising for the club without it being official.
We'd need to disciss things like membership fees. It's been discussed before but we'd need to make a decision. The registration itself costs a little but I figure anyone who contributed to that could have that amount taken off their first membership fee.

 

I just had idea....

....nope I lost it!

Maybe we can offer a membership card that people can hold on to. The longer you have been in the club, the more higher rank you are. That way it encourages people to stay in the club, not just a trial thing for them. We would have to think of ranks though? Shouldn't be that hard!!
