This is for everybody who enjoys the greatness of Pink Floyd. I noticed that there weren't any recent Floyd threads so I decided to start one.

You don't have to be a stoner to like them!

    Good call, Count_DOOku.

Thanks guys. What are your favorite 'Floyd albums?

Btw, I don't expect that this thread will become very popular because it seems that most people here either don't know anything by Pink Floyd or they just don't like them.

I'm not very familiar with their music. Are they any good?

Well, if I made an appreciation thread for them, then yeah, I think they're quite good. Some will not agree, but oh well.

Their style changed a lot, but generally, it was very "trippy" music and calm/relaxing.

    I think:

    Dark Side
    Wall
    Wish you were here
    Animals
    Atom Heart Mother
    Meddle
    Obscured by Clouds
    Ummagumma
    Momentary Lapse
    Division Bell
    Saucer full of Secrets
    Music from More
    Final Cut
Piper at the Gates of Dawn

    In that order.

Has anybody heard anything about the supposed reunion tour that was discussed a few months back? I think I'd probably die from shock if I got the chance to see them live.

Thought I'd something more to say...

I also would love for Pink Floyd to reunite. However, for me, Pink Floyd don't need to achieve anything more. I am perfectly content with the past and I really wouldn't like for them to tarnish their rep. by releasing a sub par album, if they do decide to do it.

I didn't think Piper.. was that bad, actually.

I personally think that The Final Cut is underrated. "When the Tigers Broke Free" (only on the recent rerelease), "Fletcher Memorial Home", "The Gunner's Dream", all excellent.

I also particularly like "Have a Cigar" from Wish You Were Here.

    But it was only fantasy
The Wall was as high as you can see
No matter how hard he tried he could not break free
and the worms ate into his brain...

    Love that song.

Really wished the reunion rumours were true. :(

The Division Bell album is my favourite album for about the past five years.

Well... I'd say the last time they released an album that wasn't sub-par was 25 years ago!

As for Piper at the Gates of Dawn... not that bad? It rules! Their later stuff may well be deeper, darker and more self-conciously 'significant', but fun, whimsical and energetic it's not. Piper is just that, and that's why I love it so.

I tend to get a little lost on the older stuff, but the one thing as a musician that I love about Floyd is David Gilmour's style as a guitarist. He has the knack for saying so much with so little! My favorite album is the Wall, but my favorite song is "High Hopes" off the Division Bell. Is anyone familliar with Roger Waters' solo stuff? I have a friend that swears by it, but I have yet to take a listen.

The symphony in my town is getting ready to do the Pink Floyd thing - I have seen them do it with Zeppelin music and it's great. They bring in a classically trained vocalist with rock band and then the whole symphony plays the music.

I can't wait - it will be awesome. Sigh - gone are the days of seeing Floyd themselves - glad I am *ahem* old enough to have seen them plus Waters/Gilmore on many of their tours.

I saw them on the tours to support Momentary Lapse and Division Bell, and my dad took me to see the Wall show as well, but I was too young to remember them.
