Pirates: Davy Jones Sweatsocks (A GDG Production)

Ahoy there mates! This RPG is brought to you as a proud creation of the Game Designers Guild!

    Backdrop:
Pirates: Davy Jones? Sweatsocks is a humorous RPG set forth during the High Age of Pirates. Although designed as a comedy RPG, this does not mean that we do not consider this to be a serious game. Sweatsocks will be run as a traditional game, in the IC-TAG format, with an emphasis on good grammar and high GM interaction. The humor will be integrated into the gameplay through unique and funny characters, light hearted scenario creation, and hopefully funny circumstances. With this in mind, if you are not willing to treat this game as you would any other game on the RPF, people do not join. Thank You!

    Story:
Aye you, Landbudder! What be ye doing out here in Tortuga eh? Looking for some high seas adventure? Some hijinks? Snafoos? Outtakes?

Well you?ve come to right spot by gum! Captain Hans Hobbes has just sailed into town on his luxury galleon, the Titanic!

    Er?

    Hmmm?

    Really?

On his luxury galleon, the Miniscule! Yes, one of the largest ships in these waters by gum. They say he stole em right under the nose of the Spanish Armada. 5 Levels and enough cargo space to store a hundred elephants from the North Indies they say..

    Whats that boy? Speak up!

    Captain Hobbes?

Ah yes? yeah, he?s a bit of an ?eccentric? you might say?

But he?s spreading the word that he?s looking for anyone?. And he means anyone!

He?s down at the port right now?. Why don?t you go an? ask him yourself? What do I look like, his press agent?

    Wait?.. don?t answer that?.

    Framework:
So basically, the RPG is all about the misadventures and times of this up and coming Pirate crew with the eccentric Captain Hobbes. You?ll be sailing on the Miniscule as a crew, visiting town to town, getting into trouble, raiding ships and all the like. This game will be mission-centric, revolving around certain tasks the captain sees important and trying to get rick in the process. For Pirates, its all about living the life? and that?s exactly what you?ll be seeking.

This is not a fleet RPG, we?ll be sailing on one very large ship. GM may, if he sees fit, add ships to form a fleet, but starting off at least, we?ll be all as one.

Time will be a bit warped in this RPG, with time at sea being compressed, and time at port being stretched out. We?re doing this because generally, time at sea is pretty boring, whereas on land, this isn?t the case. We?re not chopping out the sea all together, just making it much smaller that it should be.

We?ll be playing on this map (Though map may be expanded if GM sees fit): [image=http://pirates.bethsoft.com/images/map/piratesofcarib_map_1600.jpg]

Also, we?re going to be playing this as a semi-crossover RPG?. in that the GM may allow certain warped versions of Real Life Pirates to be played in the game, as well as various Pirate mentions from all sorts of other franchises around. Original Characters are welcome and encouraged though, and cross-over characters will be approved only if the GM sees fit.

    System:
There are two aspects of every character that will be established by the players. These aspects will be Fame and Wealth. Since both of these things are important to establishing a character, we'll be offering players a chance to set these aspects.

    But theres a catch....

A system of tradeoffs will be in affect that you'll have to take into account when setting your values...

Wealth: The Higher you go on your wealth status (1-10), the more money you will have to spend, but the higher chance you have to be robbed and harrassed by NPCs and other GM controlled Pirates. The more money you have, the more of an attractive target you will be for thiev

Hair Color / Style: Medium length, brown, shaggy & unkempt, stubble beard.
    Eye Color: Brown
    Skin Color: Tan brown
Clothing: Minus the long hair and bandana
    Weapons: Revolver and michetti knife.
    Town: Redmond
Bio / History: Mo Wronn, more commonly known by his comrades as Moronic Mo, is said to have been born without half of his brain. His numskulled nature has lead many to believe this true, however Mo does not care either way. "As long as me can walk, me be good," he says.

Despite his feebleminded ways, Mo is a decent pirate. His only slightly above average skill is his use with a revolver, but he is not belittled when it comes to piracy.

Quirks: Subject-shifter. If Mo is talking with someone about one subject, he occasionally shifts to an entirely different topic without warning. He is also one of the most dim-witted pirates known to man.
Pet: Mo has a pet iguana, whose name varies because he can never remember it.
Any Specific Skills: Mo is a decent shot, but nothing else stands out about him.

After an incident involving his commanding officer, a monkey, a dress and gunpowder, Hans was dismissed from the Dutch Navy, and they never recovered. Though the Dutch Navy couldn't seem to pull it together after losing one of their brightest young sailors, Hans took to pirateing and made quite the name for himself. He started off as a lowly cabin-boy for the Dread Pirate Robert, and saved enough money to buy his own ship. The first couple years were rocky ones, but Hans eventually got a crew and together, they took the seas by storm. For twenty years, Hans and his crew sailed the high seas, taking what they wanted, while no one dared step in their way. Untill foggy September day, Hans and his dread crew of death Pirates sailed out, for they had recived a tip for some unprecedented booty. Something wen't terribly wrong, and Hans showed up three months later with his ship and a ripped coat. The rest is history...

Quirks (necessary): Hans has never been able to reign in his dutch accent. This has a tendency to cause some....amusing misunderstandings...

    Alias: Myles Morgan, Kale McMurphey
    Age: 34
    Gender: Male
    Nationality: Irish
Hair Color / Style: Messy Rust Red
    Eye Color: Light green
    Skin Color: White
Clothing: oversized long sleeved cotton shirt, baggy brown cotton pants, Suspenders, leather belt, leather boots.
Home Town: Dublin (near the Dublin Port)
Weapons: Double Barreled Turn-Over flintlock, German flintlock Axe-head blunderbus, Pappenheimer Rapier
    Bio / History:

"Gather 'round Lads and I'll tell ya tha story of the gr'test irish pirate to ever sail da seven seas..."
"Oi, 'nother Gracey O'Malley story then gramps?"
"No...t'was a pirate wit' more guts dan Grace O'Malley..."
    "Anne what's her face den?"
"No damn-it! Tis the story of a true Dubliner...of an Irish gent, stubborn as a mule with his blood afire, I be talkin' about da great Patrick Guiness."
"Oi gramps...you be so far gone? Ya be speakin' of yourself, don't ya know?"
    "Aye...the great'st pirate indeed....."

Born to a poor Dublin Dock worker, Patrick Guiness was always around the docks. For as long as he could remember, he was down at the docks, helping his dad on the boats or learning from the old 'Salty Dogs'. He'd always been most facinated with the weapons the men wore on their belts, the canons he helped load onto the boats. He'd always dreamed of a life on the sea...but had never enough money to make it come true. So, weapons he'd accepted for pay collected dust in his flat, as he worked the docks like his father had long ago, and drank himself into happiness in one of the many local pubs.
Another trait he derived from his father was alchoholism. A drunkard since he could drink, he constantly found himself in a bar-room fight. Quickly becomming a skilled fighter, he became a Bar-Room Hero in the many Dublin Pubs and Taverns, a king of the fighting ring. Unfortunatly, even the best get old...and as he aged, his reflexes slowed a bit, and he began losing fights right and left, and oddly enough, that's how he found his way onto the seven seas. Evicted, and angered, he brawled with the land lords son, and awoke sprawled out on a boat with his chest lying next to him.
After a few years on the seas, he found a place with Captain Hobbes and his Motely Crew of sea men, in search of a great treasure...or so he hoped...

Quirks (necessary): Drunkard, not the brightest when it comes to anything but sailing and fighting
    Pet (if you want it):
Any Specific Skills: Well rounded, specialising in Weapondry (cannons, pistols, etc) and boarding.

Alias: 'That dern monkey', Ateles geoffroyi geoffroyi
    Age: 5
    Gender: male
    Nationality: Bolivian
    Hair Color / Style: [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/TonyS37/spdmky.jpg]
    Eye Color: Black
    Skin Color: Black
Clothing: Has a red bandanna and a black vest
Weapons: in a pinch can wield a dagger in his tail and/or hands, but prefers being an annoyance over being a fighter.
    Home Town: Naples
Bio / History: Born in the rainforests of Bolivia, Pete spent the first couple years of his life happily swinging from tree-to-tree before being captured and sold to a somewhat wealthy organ grinder in Naples. After two years of dancing with a tiny hat that people could (and occasionally did) throw money into. Unhappy with his master who took all Pete's hard-earned coinage for himself, Pete escaped onto the Miniscule in service to her crew.

Quirks (necessary): Spider monkeys are fruigivorous preferring a diet of 90% fruit and seeds, feeding on the mature soft parts of a wide variety of fruits in which the seeds are swallowed along with the fruit. Characterized by rapid passage of food through the digestive system (4 hours). Enjoys annoying people.
Pet (if you want it): Pete is the pet, although he likes to eat lice from his and other crew members' hair, if you count that as a pet

    Look out, Monkey! :p

    Name: Lord Matthew Teach
Alias: Hawk (His real name is unknown to the crew)
    Age: 26
    Gender: Male
    Nationality: British
Hair Color / Style: long brown, tied in a ponytail (a little salt water bitten)
    Eye Color: green
    Skin Color: white, tanned
Clothing: long blue coat, frayed. http://www.ohjohnny.net/potc2/potc2208.jpg ; Jack Sparrow-esque sailing boots; no hat
Weapons: a rugged rapier and a very elegant flintlock http://masterreplicas.com/file_cache/tmp4405f525938b2_ds149_jsfle_product_image.gif
    Home Town: London then Nassau
Bio / History: Born in London, Matthew was brought over to the British Caribbean in his teen years (witnessed the sacking of Nassau Port without a single cannonball fired). Once old enough, he enlisted and stood out as a brilliant military man. Upon the death of his father, Matthew gained the title of Lord, excelling him up to the personal eyes of the Governor and Admirals. This is where the Miniscule comes into play. Upon the Governor?s request, Lord Matthew Teach has gone ?undercover? to infiltrate Hans Hobbes? gigantic sloop and alert the Royal British Navy before a Town sack can occur. Since then he has gone dark and has assumed the alias of Hawk (for his pet that follows him everywhere). Matthew?s ties to his very infamous uncle are, as of now, unknown to the known world. Note: he is out of contact of the Royal Navy as of now.

Quirks (necessary): He is very bright, but is quite paranoid about hiding his true motive for piracy. Quite hilarious to watch when drunk or when acting drunk.
Pet (if you want it): A very special hawk named Pengana that was given to Matthew by his uncle, Edward Teach. She is quite the fighter and is deadly loyal to Teach. Likes to get a little drunk now and again.
Any Specific Skills: Fencing, very good aim with a flintlock or rifle (horrible with a cannon), a very good sailor and navigator

    Aspects
Fame (0-10): 0-1 (disrespect him all you want, he will not care)
Wealth (0-10): 8 (At his estate in Nassau: you wouldn?t believe him to be rich upon looking at him)

Yo Ho Ho, and GM Approved

    Name: Daniel McGraw
    Alias: "Scots" McGraw
    Age: Around thirty.
    Gender: Male
Nationality: Scotland (though you probably guessed that already)
Hair Color / Style: Shoulder length, reddish brown. Also must mention his large mustache.
    Eye Color: Brown
    Skin Color: Tanned white
Clothing: Long coat, immense boots, tartan cap, various other ripped garments. On very special occasions, a kilt.
Weapons: Scottish Claymore (not Braveheart-style gargantuo-sword, this would be a thick saber with a basket hilt).
    Home Town: Glasgow
Bio / History: Daniel "Scots" McGraw was the son of an inn-keeper in Glasgow. Deciding early on that the quiet life wasn't for him, Scots determined to go to sea, where he initially signed on as a ship's cook. Unfortunately, he found that he was an even worse cook than the usual sea variety (a tremendous feat), which effectively rocketed him up to quartermaster, so the crew (and captain) could escape his lethal skilly 'n duff. Since then, Scots has been a fearsome pirate to the core, full of wisdom (not all good), clever ideas (which don't always seem to work out), and ridiculous exploits (which usually seem to end with him barely escaping the hangman's noose). Nevertheless, he was at one point made a captain of a ship, which he promptly managed to sink (he declares to this day that it was not his fault).

Quirks: Speaks in strong Glasgow brogue. Is very proud of his heritage...er...perhaps a bit overly proud.
Pet: Had a kitten. In the words of Scots, the "damn bloody thing died frae me skilly 'n duff".
Any Specific Skills: Hoooooboy, don't get him started. But his major skills include drinking amazing amounts of whiskey, fighting with his sword, and bawling out orders at the top of his lungs.

    Aspects
    Fame (0-10): 6
Wealth (0-10): 3 (ship going down took a sizeable portion of it, so old Scots is determined to find a new berth).

    Eye Color: Brown
    Skin Color: Tan
Clothing: Brown Jacket, White Undershirt, Black Trousers
    Weapons: Short, Rusty Sword
    Home Town: None
    Bio / History:

Tim was born to a lower class family in Britian. At age twelve, he stowed away on a ship to the new world. About half-way along the voyage, he was discovered, and put to work on the ship. It was here amongst the roughneck sailors that Tim had his first taste of gambling. From that moment on, it seemed to Tim that he was destined to become a professional gambler.

Over the years, Tim had several jobs on ships that took him to many wonderful places. Along the way, he gambled...a lot. His gambling (and losing) eventually ended him up in jail, somewhere in East India. While in jail, he befriended a parrot. After a few years in the pen, Tim grew fed up with his life, and decided to make a plan. He challenged the prison guard to a game of dice. Remarkably, Tim won, and ever since he credits his victory to his parrot, which he then named Dice.

Once out of jail, Tim managed to garner himself a job working for Captain Hobbes aboard the Miniscule...

"Arrrh, the crew should be arriven here any second 'ere, eh Jonas?"

"Oohohoh EEEEH AHHH OHHHH!" Was all the reply Captain Hobbes be receivin' from his monkey companion. He couldn't right tell if his hary friend was adressing himself or Hobbes, but that didn't matter. It's not like he understood the monkey anway. Looking for some...intelligent conversation, Hobbes turned to his first mate, the only surviving member o' the old crew, and that was 'cause he was on sick leave.

"Eh Patty, when'll the crew be arrivin?" When he was sober, the rough sailor made a fine first mate, but he sure knew how to sail a ship when he was drunk. The man could hold his liquer like nobody else Hobbes had seen.

The docks were empty in the late night- Hobbes, his first mate Guiness, and his best friend (sometimes) Jonas were the only souls the eye could see. Their future business was best unseen by prying eyes...

OOC: Sorry to be disappointing ye, me Captain, but me character arn't be talkin' like a pirate, yet!

    IC: Hawk

Lord Matthew Teach, the nephew of Edward Teach, awoke from his rest in his room in some inn on Tortuga. In all realities, it was the shrill screaches from Pengana that awoke the young British nobleman.

Today was the day, I guess...

He swung his legs out of bed and changed into the ratty old garb he had picked up from some passerby. That drunk man really did enjoy the crisp Royal Navy outfit and was happy to hand over his worn out and liquor-dyed coat and pants.

It had been two weeks since the Governor had given him this task to infiltrate Hobbes'Miniscule, and Teach was still kinda shocked.

Putting on the ratty old falconing glove that Blackbeard had given him, Matthew called Pengana the Hawk to his arm. Flintlock, check! Rapier, check!

Pirate? Did he seem pirate enough?

Without hesitating, Matthew Teach grabbed the bottle of rum from the bedside table and splashed a bit on his face. That'd do it...

Adopting a rather eccentrically drunk walk, "Hawk" made his way down from the inn to the docks.

Henri Le Rouge, The Dread Pirate Read

    Henri was in a hurry.

"Tabernac, tabernac, espece de loup sauvage! J'avais rien! Rien! Mongrels!"

A steady stream of curses in English followed shorly thereafter, and he hopped a rail, dropping three feet. That was a set of stairs?

"Gah! Malin sauvages! Leave me alone!" he cried to his pursuers. "Leave me alone, or else Ah will 'ave to make an example of you, okay?"

Their only response was to fire at him with flintlock pistols.

"Eh! That's not very nice, amis! Let me show you how eet ees done!" he said, drawing his rapier with a flourish. The energy of the movement added a bit extra momentum to his swing, and Henri realized how heavy a rapier could be. The blade swung wildly in front of him, and he with it.

The blade stuck in a wood post not two feet away, and he tugged on the hilt of his sword, struggling to free it. A shadow fell across his features, and he looked up, slowly.

A big, surly Haitian man, haired braided in dreadlocks, brandishing two wicked-looking blades.

"Ha ha, ami, zis is just a petite misunderstanding, okay? No problems, eh, ami?" he said, hands still locked around the hilt.

The Haitian swung both blades at Henri's mid-section, and he leaped nimbly over the blows. The blades bit and stuck, and the Haitian, too, was stuck. Henri's own blade came free, just as another attacker swung at him. Henri stepped on the Haitian's blades, dodging the second attack. The other man's sword slid through the belt of the burly Haitian, and his pants dropped.

Before he could do anything, however, Henri had stepped (not so gently) on his face, and jumped up, grabbing a low flag. Henri hauled himself up to the roof, and struck a gallant pose.

"Remember zis day, as it will live in infamy as ze day you almost caught ze Dread Pirate Read!" he cried down to to small gang. A shot rang out, and Henri's hat spun on his head. He ducked wildly.

"Hey! No guns, okay?" Another bullet knocked his hat clean off. He scrambled for it on the shingles, and leapt off the roof, grabbing another flag and sliding to the bottom, knocking over a merchant's table.

He stood quickly, and did a double-take, seeing the woman standing behind, a bewildered expression on her very pretty face.

"Madamoiselle," he said, quickly kissing her hand, before running off to the docks.

With the brigands just out of sight in the city, Henri found a waiting boat in the harbour. He needed to get on it. It wouldn't be long before they figured out where he was hiding.

"Eh! Eh! You need a hand on the ship?" he called to the man with the monkey.
