I think they should make a personality test based on which POTCs one likes or dislikes.

 

Disney needs to forget about the POTC franchise and make a Monkey Island movie already.

 

The first movie is a wonderful romp, the rest are deplorable crap.

 

The third movie makes absolutely no goddamned sense either. Why the hell did Naomi Harris suddenly turn into a giant and then start talking like she was from a David Lynch movie?

 

Seems the Lone Ranger misfire has prompted the studio to delay DMTNT at least until 2016.

 

Smart move, 2015 was looking too crowded with movies.
Disney already has several Marvel pictures and Star Wars out that year.

 

Yep. And ID4 only a week before DMTNT's intended relase date and the MOS followup about a week after (I think?) could have cut into DMTNT's numbers (maybe).

 

I like them all fine, none of them are actually bad, but each one has been worse than the last.

 

Depp's gonna be like 53 when the next one supposedly comes out. Perhaps they should just quit......or *gasp* reboot?

 

I don't think Depp's age is a problem, pirates get old, too. Piracy isn't necessarily a young man's game, at least not in fiction. Rush, Fat, McShane, Keith Richards, they all looked the part just fine.

Maybe they should just go away for at least a decade, then maybe interest will be renewed.

That's the problem with these franchises, Hollywood can't wait to cash in on the next movie. They rebooted Spider-Man (perhaps the most successful superhero trilogy/franchise of all time) five years after it ended. They rebooted Superman six years after Superman Returns.

Let franchises rest of a good, long while. A decade is really the bare minimum, it should be closer to a full generation.

 

Makeup can do wonders for older actors, Depp has aged pretty well anyway. It's not like he has to do much anyway except deliver lines and swagger, stunt doubles can do all the fighting and stuff.

Thing with Spider-Man, I think the reboot was more because Sony knew they had to get a movie out so the rights didn't go back to Disney. Spider-Man 3 left a bad taste in the mouth for many fans and Raimi & Maguire had left. Rebooting seemed a logical option, though I would have done away with an origin story so soon after the last one.

The problem with Pirates is that Depp really makes it, without him it might not work anymore. Same problem Marvel will have with Iron Man once RDJ leaves the role.

 

Well hopefully the next Pirates movie actually has ship battles.

I'm waiting for M. Night Shyamawhatzitwhosits to get ahold of this franchise and end it with Captain Jack Depp realizing he was actually part of an elaborate amusement park ride all this time.

 

Blech. After reading this article (and I sincerely hope most of it is pure rumor and not likely to come true), it seems my decision to consider the Pirates franchise over with AWE is justified. Seriously, it's starting to turn into a clown circus. There's also unverified rumors swirling(without a source cited, I might add) that Jack Davenport is returning as James Norrington in ghost form for DMTNT.

I hope it's not because it would justify how much of a joke this series has become. It's turning into the A Nightmare on Elm Street of big budget blockbuster movies. Progressively stupider sequels that rely more on bad humor.
