I'm currently working on Elizabeth's Gold Gown (along with my Zam Wessel undertaking, crazy I know). I just wanted to let everyone know that Joann's has 60in gold drapery fabric which is pretty close to the movie pattern. I already bought some fabric for this months ago, but decided to use this fabric instead. PLUS it's a great deal at $5 per yard. Here is a pic:

I have lots of closeups of the POTC3 costumes that are on display at the El Capitan in a sub album on my photobucket site. http://s132.photobucket.com/albums/q15/costumeghoddess/POTC%203%20costumes%20at%20El%20Capitan/

If I did the link wrong, you can go to my photo site in my signature and go to the sub album for POTC3.

For the fellow who wanted the white shirt to look like it has been worn, we dye it in tea to give it that stressed look.
Also Wal-Mart is selling the visual dictionaries from the 3rd episode for $8.88 instead of $20.00 everywhere else. I make my pirate costumes out of upholstery silks, linens, cottons and blends. I find my fabrics, especially if they are post season, at the jobbers or warehouses which sell post season or discontinued fabrics. The chances to find the fabrics used in these movies at Jo-Anns or Hancock are pretty slim, most fabrics have a season run,the mills only produce so much yardage of one style and the retail stores stock according to season. Find a person with a retail number, we get into places, retail costumers cannot get into, including the fabric shows. Last show I visited , a vendor was selling out of the Padme picnic gown fabric. The only reason I did not buy them out is because I had no reference to the colors on the chiffon, there were 3 combinations. I see a great need for the accurate fabrics, perhaps I should think of helping people out in this department in the future since I have the means and the ability to help out.

After nearly a year, I finally added my POTC costumes to my webpage, including construction details:

    Barbossa
    Elizabeth's plum dress
    Elizabeth's island shift

I also have a whole mess of photos of the Barbossa costume that's on display at Disney-MGM studios. They're linked from the Barbossa page.

Thanks so much, guys! We took the pictures at the San Diego Maritime Museum on two of the ships they have, the Star of India and the HMS Surprise, during Comic-Con last year.

Hello! I've recently finished making Elizabeth Swann's robe from Pirates 1 and thought I'd share pictures with everyone. Some of my pictures are blurry, which appears to be my particular picture taking talent!

I used Simplicity 5840 as the base pattern and re-drew seamlines as needed. Since my fabric wasn't very wide, I chose to alter the back to give the impression but not the exact look of the original. The gown underneath is Padme's Coruscant nightgown.

Does anybody know where I can find "dome buttons"? I ordered a coat off of eBay and the lady who made it did not add them (or the split up the middle) to the back of the coat. I've checked hobby shops and fabric stores and have come up empty. The closest I've come are online stores out of Germany and I'd really like to find some place a little closer to home.

Very nice job, Kasey! I really like the fabric you used. :)

JediSteve, I'm just curious, but are you looking for "pirate"-type metal dome buttons, specifically? If so, there's lots of sites out there that have notions and stuff for coats and things. Maybe this site could help?

Yes I am. The trick is that I really don't want to have to change out all of the buttons on the coat so I'm hoping to match the ones I've got. I can probably just email the lady who made it for me. She'll probably even sell me some.

I've seen that site before. The buttons I've got are very plain, metal buttons. I'll try to get a photo tonight. Thanks for the help!!

Update: I contacted the lady I bought my coat from and she offered to sell me the exact buttons I need for $1 each. Don't know why I didn't think of that before... :)
