Speculation Pitch your Episode VII story idea in 10 words or less

Disillusioned with the New Republic, the Jedi go into dormancy.

 

Ahsoka Tano makes like John Harrison.

 

New Republic battles remnants of the Empire while slowly rebuilding.

 

I'm strongly leaning toward going spoiler free this time around.

 

I wonder if we'll have much choice? Damned if JJ has managed to keep his new ST movie under such tight wraps, it's going to be worse with Star Wars!!

 

Make it dark, make it serious, with a splash of comedy!

Sounds like a holonet headline.

Princess and Jedi Knight Allana saves the galaxy and falls in love with the young rogue Trask Rendar. Supporting cast include Luke and Ben, Han, Leia, and Jaina, artoo, threepio, and Allana's pet nexu Anji, as well as various Jedi.

 

The Empire will always strike back.

 

No politics, less cgi, grittier fights, better dialogue, more fun.

(Ok, that's more of a theme than a plot, but I still think that's going to be how it goes down.)

 

If it were up to me, the most important part of the story of Episodes 7-9 could be summed up in ten words as follows:

Luke's son is protagonist.
Monomyth, father/son continued.
Luke lives.

I don't think that's asking too much (it's perfectly in line with the story as we know it) and as long as these elements were to serve as the foundation of the story, I'd be happy to see whatever other characters, plots, settings , etc. Lucasfilm could throw at us.

Now, do I realistically expect to see all of my wishes here fulfilled? No, this list is just my "Star Wars in a perfect world" kind of list and I suppose that the only 'sure thing' on that list is that the hero's journey will be referenced in some capacity. That said, I think it would be a serious mistake not to take advantage of the opportunity of giving Luke Skywalker a son in the story to continue the themes established in the prior films (and as the new Skywalker, I would imagine "Ben" would fill the role of protagonist rather naturally). I cannot stress enough just how vitally important I think it is that they go this route with the new story.

Finally, my desire to have Luke survive the new trilogy is probably due to my personal attachment to the character, more than anything, but I do think leaving his ultimate fate unaddressed (and not allowing the EU to touch it, either) would offer us the chance to write Luke's final chapters for ourselves (which I think would be a wonderful gesture to the audience). That said, if Luke is given a powerful on-screen ending where he goes out on his own terms (in other words, not in battle to some new threat), having Luke survive the ST would likely be the one thing I'd give up in order to see the rest of my list realized.
