Did they actually film in Iceland for TLJ though? All I remember is a couple of rumours which turned out to be for other productions.

The guy saw trees/forest but doesnt mean forest world. Could be forests on canto bight or some trees on ahch-to....as for iceland could be anything too, from new part of same planets to a "cameo world" in a vision or a small scene but not a main location. Im still waiting for evidence that there's a 4th planet...but the lack of evidence doesnt prove anything!

Yes, they did. I don't know if the main unit ever did, but Iceland had its own splinter unit and 2nd unit crew members were also there for at least a week last summer, possibly longer.

You don't have to take my word for it either, as there are several mentions of Iceland unit on TLJ's IMDb page :)

Seems like we only see Ach-To in good detail, from the first teaser... And there's a planet where the space battle was taking place (the one with the huge spacecraft), wonder whether that's going to be the Canto Bright place or something else?

Could it be D'Qar as the resistance evacuates the base?

We see Ahch-to, Crait (salt flats and red dust/gas) and space battle above (D'Qar?).

i feel like there's a good portion of the film that happens in space, aboard the Resistance ships (and Republic ships? or whatever faction Admiral Holdo belongs to). Not only as they escape D'Qar (if that's indeed where they are in that scene) but also later as the story progresses.

The only thing that makes me doubt about D'Qar is that we see Admiral Holdo's own fleet in the battle...wouldn't they come a bit later in the story as they're not on the resistance base yet in TFA? or maybe they're arriving at the very same moment the FO is attacking the base? and that's how LD's character and her fleet are introduced in the movie?

I think Holdo arrives to help escort the Resistance off D'Qar.

Gigoran Monk yep, something like this. Maybe this is what we're seeing in the scene. And a good way to introduce the character...or maybe we're absolutely off the mark haha how can we know for sure? :D

Could it be that Canto Bight is actually on Crait?

The Resistance escapes to their old base but their ship is damaged and needs 'something'. Leia (if she is conscious) mentions a gambling den on the other side of the Salt Flats. There's someone there (BDT) who owes Leia a favour and may be able to help. Amongst all the mining vehicles is an old speeder and Finn volunteers for the trip. He'll need a mechanic (Rose) if the speeder breaks down and of course an astromech droid (BB-8). Finn, Rose and BB-8 reach Canto Bight but of course BDT is in jail and they need to break him out or something, something.... . Adventure time, they get the something for their ship and travel back to the Mining Base only to find themselves in the middle of a ground battle.

    BB-8 rides an AT-AT...

Rose and her crew fix the ship and they escape just as the At-ATs breach the outer perimeter.

CrazyOldJedi As much as I would love a planet with diverse landscapes, you know the drill - all sand planet, all condo planet, all salt flats planet, all Dubrovnik planet, all snow planet, etc. I think that's for easy orientation cause SW is for kids too. So they see sand, know it's Jakku or Tatooine depending on the movie. Etc.

Not likely. Lol. This seems to be a pattern of your theories. Remember how Eadu was supposed to part of Jedha (an underground mining pit of some kind)? And then...well, you know. ;)

    Pathetic.

It's all good, Crazy. I just thought it was funny, particularly as we are once again talking about mining operations. Big time déjà vu. :)

And if I'm wrong about this one? Boy will there be lots of crow to eat!

OK, we're good. Just trying to get some reasoning behind Finn and Rose doing whatever they are doing in Canto Bight. With no disrespect they are not exactly Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor and would not be the first names on a 'secret mission' candidate list.

Unlikely. The old rebel base on Crait had been abandoned before the resistance comes there in The Last Jedi.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time with this one too. But that probably has to do with the simple fact that we know next to nothing about the non-Jedi story.

My wild guess: The First Order strikes at the financial heart of the Resistance (the mines on Crait) and the Resistance strikes at the financial heart of the First Order (Canto Bight casinos). Finn and Rose (and this slicer guy) are sent on a mission to help make that happen.

But even I hate my own theory, so...yeah. I've got nothing.

I know that, but I reasoned that Canto Bight might be some distance away from the Rebel Base. Two separate locations on the same planet.

The mines (or minefields  ) have been shut down for some time so no longer viable as a source of income. I'm guessing that Leia knows it's a safe place to hide and does so when D'Qar gets attacked. The impression is that they use the old mining vehicles to defend the place (the skimmers in the trailers and cargo vessels that drop the red mineral on the AT-ATs *). That has me thinking that the X-Wings are elsewhere (probably on Holdo's Flagship under her command at this point).

    * - I know you know that I don't like the Site but I do read and take note of MSW's spoilers and it's sometimes the seemingly most insignificant and minor ones that turn out to be the most interesting.

Perhaps the Resistance is larger than is implied in TFA, and has multiple bases around the galaxy. i.e. one on D'Qar, one on Crait...ect...

I thought the description of Crait is that it was an abandoned Rebel mine that had been reopened by the Resistance. So in TLJ, I think it's a working Resistance mine.

I can't help but wish that we see UR and it's like something out of a nightmare. Just a bonkers imagination merged with real stuff (black holes, magnetic storms, quasars, other space phenomena that SW never showed/explored).

The Rebel Base has been abandoned for some time but there's no mention of the mines being closed. So yeah, it could still be a working planet but with no military presence.
