I think a random voice mentioned it in a YA novel adaption of TLJ.

I wonder if there is a reason why we have all these "wasteland" planets?

Something happened in the past on Jakku as it was not always the arid world we see today. Palpatine was so disgusted by what ever original essence still remained in the core that he sought to have it destroyed.

Then there is the former rebellion mining planet of Crait. What is the red soil? I think something happened there in the past as well.

I always assumed it was a practical decision. It maybe takes less time and money to create a wasteland planet than various different planets with even more elaborate sets than what you get with a desert planet set.

I’m hoping it’s on the First Order capital planet/ Snoke’s homeworld, and that it follows McQuarrie’s Had Abbadon concepts.

I'm down for that. We've never had that before in a SW film.

I hope JJ is more imaginative with the planets in Ep IX. Jakku feels exactly like Tatooine. Takodana and D'Qar are two generic green planets in a row (and feel lazy for not venturing outside of England). Starkiller Base drew Hoth comparisons, but I did appreciate the freshness of a snowy forest environment.

    Bring on more unseen terrains!

I would love to see Tython in Episode IX. Since we got to see Jedha in R1 and we will see Ahch-To in TLJ, it would be neat to see another planet, strong with the Force and rich in Force mythology make an appearance.

With the new trailer, Crait has the potential to catapult its way into my top 5 favorite Star Wars planets. I mean...

It seems we "only" get three planets this time (forcebacks dont count) but they look splendid and exiciting.

Crait is visually stunning, those thinking of Hoth must be blind: these immense flat lands of cracked white salts, this ultra red soil underneath, the grey and black rocks and moutains here and there, the huge mine/cave of red crystals...just wow!!!!!

Ahch-To is naturally beautiful, a water planets with islands...the mist, the rain, burnt tree and underwater alien skeletons, the steps and the huts etc...it has that fantasy medieval vibe and a very nice contrast to the other environments. Beautiful landscape.

we didnt see much of Canto Bight in the trailers but from the pictures you can tell it's a very exciting new location. The SW version of the french riviera with its casinos, space horses, and upper class wealthy people who dont feel concerned about the galaxy. I think it's gonna be a real treat to explore this "very civilized" city with its fancy luxuary life and hidden dangers.

good job Rian/Lucasfilm. Sometimes less is more. i sense a lot of world building for TLJ.

Couldn't agree more with how amazing Crait looks visually. Certainly the world building that TLJ is going to do is right up near the top of my anticipation list.

That shot of the outlying bunker on Crait is my favorite image from this film so far. It looks like 70s sci-fi art realized in live action. So cool.

With three or four Death Stars protecting it....making getting to the surface as difficult as facing Snoke himself.

Recently read the whole concept of Had Abbadon and it being protected by multiple Death Stars and it made me mad that Lucas didn't go all out with Jedi. Maybe IX can make up for it by reusing the old concepts.
