Hi everyone, I need some advise of what to do. I have discovered one of my works on thissite using without my permission. :_|

well I don't know what to do. I am very hurt and sad by this. so far I have only post it on this site. If it's so easy to take my works from tfn it is easy to send me an email which is in my profile.

I wouldn't mind but it doesn't even says I am the artist.

    :_|:_|:_|

maybe I feel better about it, I hope. if anyone else had the experience please tell me what you did.

The easiest thing to do would be to contact the site owner...?

I've unfortunately had some experience with this, and it's always disappointing to find people doing these sorts of things. The most egregious case I've had was somebody using my artwork to advertise for a brothel in Second Life. o_0. Yeah, think about how to go about getting that taken care of when you don't even play the "game."

First of all, TVTropes is a wiki. You can always try just registering and editing it out of the page, stating that its your image and you don't authorize its use in the edit comments. If that fails, your next best case is sending a DMCA to the site's admin. It's how I got my stuff out of Second Life (via snail mail even). I tried looking, and unfortunately, that site's contact information is buried far far away in a place I couldn't find. It should be there somewhere, but I couldn't find it. The only e-mail address I could find was on the site's domain registration: the e-mail address designsgbygus.com. For info on how to write up a DMCA letter, just google stuff like "DMCA Template" or "DMCA Sample," for you to use and tailor to your needs. What you will need is proof that the image is yours, usually in the form of it being posted online somewhere else earlier credited to you (if you've posted it here or on deviantArt or the like).

On the other hand, since it is a wiki, you could also try editing in credit for the image, either with just your name or info where it came from. Personally, as long as my stuff isn't being used to make other people money or used in association with things pornography or prostitution, I'm usually ok if people repost it as long as they give the info of where it came from.

Aww, so sorry to hear about this kikichan! [:D]

The others above already offered some sound advice and I don't really have anything else to add. Unfortunately, this is a risk we take every time we post our artwork online and it can be very frustrating, but usually it turns out to be a misunderstanding and it can be handled quite easily.

Out of curiosity, I followed the link you provided and it came up as an error message. Did you already have success in getting the image removed? Be sure to keep us in the loop! :)

Thanks so much Giolon ! [:D] For going to so much trouble ! I'm going to take your advice and try to edit a link in the wiki.
I had no idea anyone could edit it.

I'm feeling a bit better now, I think I was shocked and panicking [face_blush]

I was just sad that yes it's the internet, but it's still very disrespectful. :_| I'm sad there are such people on the internet.

    Thank you [:D]

Your pic was uploaded by a user called Starscream, it also shows you his IP address, you can edit out the picture but apparently you they cannot delete pic from the server unless they are not linked to for 6 months.

Since you have the image without the text added and uploaded earlier this year, you could also try explaining in one of their forums and see if someone will replace the image for you.

If you edit the image your IP address will be publicly available so beware of that if you do decide to edit it yourself.

You could also search the site for user Starscream and ask him why he stole your image.

E: Found someone with a similar story to you they asked and got credit put on the site, but you should ask in one of the other subforums I think, also I wouldnt want any of my stuff used in that site,

Here is a list of of Starscreams edits. A lot of Star Wars related edits there I'd guess "Starscream" lurks/post on TFN[face_thinking] also has a thing for redheads.

    Thank you GEEK,

I'm really surprised and touched by the people trying to help [:D]

I don't like the idea of my ip address being displayed... but I guess I can use a school computer when I get back to school (I'm on break).
This wiki thing is very confusing !

also I wouldnt want any of my stuff used in that site,

why not [face_worried] is it really bad ?
well if it is I might have to contact starscream. how do I contact her without an email ?

A lot of Star Wars related edits there I'd guess "Starscream" lurks/post on TFN thinking also has a thing for redheads.

2 things are really bothering me about the url of my image. 1. it says 2, so there's another stolen image ?
and... I never posted that drawing under that name. But they seem to know exactly who I am. how ? the only people that would know are friends that I informed ... unless they are a lurker and been following me for... a long time... some months [face_worried]

I'm really worried now. I want to know who they are and how they know me. arrrrghhh !!

    Starscreams profile
A whois of the ip address comes back as Sydney Australia but I wouldnt trust that 100%

Starscream has uploaded 2 images yours and a pic of Mara Jade that looks like fan art too but I dont recongnise it from here.

The site isnt going to steal your pin numbers or anything, it just seems badly designed, and isnt really my thing.

When I first saw this site I thought it was a place for people who think they have aspergers
to go and obsess about things, and I'm not sure my opinion has changed.

Through their forums I figured out that user fast eddie seems to have admin rights.
You can pm him via their forums if you make an account, all you need to do is put in a name and password.
You could also do the same for starscream if you can find a forum post by her.

Dear kiki, I am happy you got so many kind advices here already.

Your story shows us what a risk it is to put stuff on-line, but do we wish to have our fun spoiled by such incredible thieves? NO!

*hugs* hope you manage to work it out!

tvtropes - I have visited the site once in a while, as the Main Tropes Index page there tells it:

Tropes are storytelling devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations
Quite useful for editing/working on fanfics, although I think one needs to be prepared to admit that the less commendable "tropes" maybe could have been avoided used in ones work ...

To actually find the energy to work on the site most likely does ask a certain level of, well, devotion. (Not unlike SW/Star trek ed. factfiles and the like, in fact ;)

I would guess that it is best to ask this Starscream and an admin to put a copyright notice with your name, and a link to your main fanart gallery (tfn fanart thread?) with the picture. I would make it initially worded to assume simple oversight on their part, to avoid forcing hostile (bc. ashamed/worried) reactions.

    Success!

    DU

Thank you for the kind advises,
I have joined the wiki and sent polite message to starscream asking to link to me,
I'm a little worried of the the other artist's claims to have added credit, and I'm seeing no evidence of this.
I hope I will get a response soon.
I won't let it stop me creating new works ;)

Hi, I'm the editor Starscream from TV Tropes.

I saw this thread while searching for my IP address (out of curiosity), and thought I should explain my position. Sorry if this counts as necroposting.

Your pic was uploaded by a user called Starscream, it also shows you his IP address, you can edit out the picture but apparently you they cannot delete pic from the server unless they are not linked to for 6 months.

Just for further reference, I'm female.

I'll be honest; I didn't actually think I was stealing your art when I uploaded it - I uploaded it because I liked it and wanted everyone to see it. I've not once claimed credit for the piece and specifically kept your username - one you seem to have used in the past - within the file for that very reason.

My apologies if I offended you in any way. Just tell me if you do or don't want any more pieces up there, though I really would like to share your art to the world. As for deleting it, I don't know how to, so for the moment, that's out of the question.

Here is a list of of Starscreams edits. A lot of Star Wars related edits there I'd guess "Starscream" lurks/post on TFN thinking also has a thing for redheads.

Well, yes, I do lurk, but to be honest I'm not fond of the posting habits of those on the Literature forums - I only go there for spoilers. You're right in that I have a thing for redheads - Mara and Ben happen to be two of my favorite characters.
