Just an attempt to see how collecting all responses in one thread would work out.

Callenge broought to you by brodiew:

Write a poem of your own style focusing on Luke Skywalker's departure from Tatooine.

To start things off, haiku by me.[face_blush]

    Sand gets everywhere
    it even gets off-planet
    and now, so will I

Excellent haiku, Lanna. I'm sure some of the sand of Tatooine shook off on the Deathstar!

    Haiku format inspired by MsLanna

    Acrid smoke rises
    From family home and bones
    Pushing son away

I hope I did this right!

Here is my quick-written response. It ended up longer than I wanted it but... Here's nothing!

    Stars

    Stars,
    They bring,
    New hope?
    My life is shattered,
    The last remnants,
    Scattered like the stars,
    They are irretrievable.

    Sand,
    Once my playground,
    Gone?
Will I ever see it again?
    It is everywhere,
    Swirling,
    Scattered,
    Shattered.

    Suns,
    Twin Mothers of the Desert,
    Will I ever feel
    Your rays?
    Or behind me,
    Do you lie?

    Family,
    What does it mean?
    They are gone,
    I couldn?t save them.
    Now,
    Is it my fault?

    Guilt,
    It will forever plague me.
    Was it my error,
    Or those stupid droids?
    Could I have prevented it?
    Or saved them?

    Destiny,
    I will embrace it,
    I have to.
What other choices do I have?

    Dreams,
Do I dare to dream them?
Or forever will I be haunted,
By the last dream I dared to dream?
    Imperial Academy?
    Was I so blind?
    Am I that naïve?

    Joy,
    Happiness?
    What are these things?
    They are memories,
    Of a long forgotten life,
    That only ended,
    Minutes ago?

    Sorrow,
    And your companion loss,
    I thought I knew you.
    But I knew nothing.
    Now, I am nothing,
    Or am I starting anew?

    Cold,
    Is like death,
    Is like space.
    It is too far reaching,
    And difficult to fathom.
    Will I ever,
    Understand?

    Alone,
    Yet not alone.
    Hope,
    Yet hopeless.
    Where am I going?

    Skywalker,
    What does that name mean?
    Am I someone,
    Or no one?
    Jedi,
    Or Farmer?

    Hope,
It is all that I have,
    To hold on to.
    I must embrace it,
    I must hold onto it,
    What else can I do?

    Stars,
    They bring,
    New hope?
    My life is shattered,
    The last remnants,
    Scattered like the stars,
But I will try to hold on.
I will try to embrace my destiny.
    I will try?

    The End

    War gives only losers
    One of them is me
    Aunt Beru
    Uncle Owen
    Dead

Okay people, don't forget to reply to the other poems, will you?[face_batting]

brodiew I love the first line, also that Luke sees himself as 'son' of Owen and Beru. And don't aks me why I read a comma in between 'family' and 'home'

Quigonjecca I love the part about sorrow. Very touching and showing how he feels very well. Maybe the rythm could be made more visible; not metre, just, I don't know, something that's pacing the flow.

earlybird-obi-wan You will have to explain the first line to me. Even my trusted leo-dict was not able to spit out a menaing for 'give' that I coudl fit into the sentence. Blame it on me not being a native speaker.[face_blush]

MsLanna- I love Haiku, I only wish I could write it! My stuff always ends up jumbled and freeform. I like Luke's comparison between himself and the sand.

brodiew- I like your Haiku too! I love the sentiments of Luke being Owen and Beru's "Son". I always wondered if he felt that way.

earlybird-obi-wan- Oh, poor Luke! That is how he must feel! I would hate to blame myself for someone else's death!

    Good job everyone!

Quigonjecca: I was really touched by this Luke stream of consciousness. The above stanzas were so vivid and well written. Luke's feelings of guilt are palpable.

earlybird-obi-wan: Indeed war is terrible and Luke has been cast to the wind as the war comes to his home.
