    An Awards Lament

    by CYNICAL21

    So many fics, so little time;
    And I must put my woe in rhyme.
    Awards come round and we must choose
    Which ones will win and which will lose.
    It hardly seems the least bit fair
    That all cannot be winners there;
    For best and worst depend on taste,
    And a good fic is a terrible thing to waste.
    Tales of Obi, bright and strong
    And the Master Bonehead who done ?im wrong;
    Tales of Ani and his lady love,
    And the dark within that none spoke of.
    Tales of Luke, and his brush with fate,
    And the Jedi skills that made him great;
    Tales of the scoundrel and Her Grace,
    Of Wedge, and Chewy, of Palpy and Mace;
    Of Vader's redemption and ice caves on Hoth,
    Of handmaiden's victories and Yoda's swamp broth.
    Tales by Red and obi-ew.
    Darths Tim and Lothi, and Breezy, too;
    Tales by PaddyJuan, by Agent Jaid,
    By Vader Incarnate, skilled in the trade;
    The darkling rich landscape of Aunecah's mind,
    And Derisa's bright fancy, that is romance defined;
    Dark stories of conflict and tactics by Jae,
    And Jane Jinn's perspectives on the padawan's way;
    Stories by Cas and Anakin Girl,
    And LuvEwan?s prose to keep us awhirl;
    RebelMom thrills us; Arwyn draws sighs;
    Galadriel haunts us; Melyanna supplies
    The intrigue to bind us; then there?s Mr P,
    And Jade Max, and YubYub, and, of course, Geo 3,
    And so many more, but space will run out
    And there?ll always be more names to natter about.

    So many ? too many ? I say to you all,
    That here in these threads we should all have a ball;
    Forget about winning and losing and such,
    And admit that awards can become a bit much.

    Let?s write from our hearts and share it with friends,
    And create our full story, take it through till it ends.
    And make bloody sure that our voices prevail,
    To proclaim, ?I'm a writer ? and this is my tale.?
    Tell tall tales of Yavin and the waters of Theed,
    For truly, my comrades, what more do you need?

    FINI ? and apologies for all the names that were left off the list. To include everyone would A.) tax my abilities to rhyme beyond all reason and B.) keep me at the keyboard until the end of the decade. :D

    All right, FINALLY, coming out of lurkdom to say that - CYN, that was magnificent. I don't care much for poetry, but my God, I thought the Awards poem was just...just... [face_shocked] :_| astounding! That's getting into the first post of the Awards thread, unless Mel and Kit' object, which I doubt they will.

    Wonderful. [face_love]

    I do ADORE getting someone to de-lurk. Thanks, Aunecah - and, as I have stated many, many times in the past, I am NOT a big fan of awards because I believe artists - of all kinds - should support each other, instead of competing. But I'm hoping (got fingers, toes, and otherwise crossed) that THIS time, everything will come off smoothly and without hostility.

    And if you want to use it - it's yours to do with as you please. :D

    Another de-lurker...been meaning to do this for a few days now.

    Great job, CYN. :)

    And I got mentioned... [face_blush]

    I've been loving this thread...you write great poetry as well as great prose. :)

    *wishes there was still a poetry category in the awards*

    Great! Would've liked it if Qui was mentioned by his name, but still great. :)

    Edited to say I swear this board had a laughing face a few days ago... And it does and my computer won't show it. So you can have a :D x 3 instead. :)

    Wow. [face_laugh] That was great. :D

    I was just thinking last night that these awards are a little strange. As you say in the poem, it's all according to taste and opinion.

    And, yes, writers should support each other instead of competing for something that makes them no better or worse at their craft.

    Fanastic, CYN. I'm so glad you've gone ahead with this wonderful thread. ;)

    Okay, this is well-covered territory, but I might as well post it. ;)

    The Moments You Fail
    By LuvEwan

    Your strength is sculpted in your hands
    Chiseled in your fingers
    Each day you strive to fulfill the demands
    But?sometimes?your grief lingers.

    You wake along with the pale break of dawn's sun
    Smoothly without pause
    Facing the cruel rigors of work that must be done
    Weighted by their heavy cause.

    But if you regret a moment of this life
    You hide the pain behind your steady smile
    Resigned to your private strife
    You forge ahead?every mile.

    Through the sweat and stinging bloodshed
    From the bleak, ruthless war
    You save the innocent and mourn the dead
    Others always come before.

    And you teach the lessons I've to learn
    Understanding, patient?kind
    But I can see the tears shining in eyes that turn
    When dark remembrances overtake your mind.

    It is in the moments you fail
    My Master, father, and friend
    It is in the beats where your sorrow prevails
    That I know you think of the past again.

    The mud clings to your aching feet
    As you slosh through the swamps so dense
    Yet your voice remains as young and sweet
    As the guileless soul I sense.

    In the crash of thunder
    That rumbles the sea and hills
    You shield me with your arms as the world goes asunder
    Unwavering, until the tumult stills.

    You bestow the last shred of your soul
    To assure I will grow and control my gift
    While you lose what made you whole?
    Because I caused between your Master and you the bitter rift.

    You leap into the blossoming flame
    If by duty you are guided
    Forgetting the worth of your existence, your name
    Do you even wonder if the sacrifice will be requited?

    But when you glance away from me
    Into an unseen, distant sky
    It is the raw figure I see
    Who suppresses a weary sigh.

    It is in the moments you fail
    My teacher, confidant, brother
    It is in the instance you recall what your loyalty entails
    That?somehow?I love you like no other.

    Hey, if I write Anakin, it HAS to involve Obi-Wan one way or another...or else I have to take breaks to gag. 8-}

    Wow, LE - that final verse is super-powerful - and very touching. I think we sometimes forget that - regardless of the final outcome - Anakin MUST have loved Obi-Wan as he was growing up; it would have been unnatural if he had not - so it makes the final destiny of both of them even more tragic.

    Good job.

    Here's a post ep3 thingy.

    Turn Out The Light

    [Padme]
    There is nothing left for me
    No friends, no love, no family
    In the darkness here I lie
    Wait for the rest of me to die

    [Jar Jar]
    Nothing left for anyone
    No more laughter, no more sun
    This cannot be what our lives meant
    Shed tears for the innocent...

    [Yoda]
    The greatest dark is found within
    Will love return to those who sin?
    Will anything return to me?
    Light from the hatred that I see?

    [Anakin]
    There is a reason I do this
    I saved my angel from death's kiss
    I pray I left her not in hell
    But if she is...I'm there as well

    [Qui-Gon]
    The Force will always find a way
    I loved it for that every day
    Can I hate it now for what it's done?
    Killed lives, killed dreams, killed my son?

    [Obi-Wan]
    The one I thought I was is dead
    Another one is there instead
    Two for him and two for me
    I'll watch and wait for destiny...

    [Palpatine]
    Oh fools, my fools, love is no more
    Things are now that weren't before
    You lose and I have won the fight
    Oh fools so hopeless, turn out the light.

    Excellent job everyone!!!! :D These poems are just....just amazing. And that awards one made me laugh.

    I'm in the process of writing an Anakin poem but I'm being delayed by an ear ache. :_| As you can see I have a low tolerance for pain in any form. ;)

    *grumbles something incoherent*

    And plus, I'm having a little trouble writing Anakin. [face_blush]

    What's this thread doing on page 3? :eek:

    This is a Qui/Tahl poem, set after Call To Vengance. Admittedly it needs work, but I really rather like it. :) Qui's POV.

    FAIRYTALES

    In all the stories I've read
    It ended happily
    There was no darkness waiting
    To destroy the Knight's Lady
    Good always triumphed over evil
    The wicked never won
    Light and Dark seem closer now
    Like night when there is sun.
    Was I not nearly as bad as him
    Who took my lady's life
    Did I not nearly betray
    Him my son and her my wife?
    Will I die tomorrow knowing
    His eyes are full of fear
    Or will I die when I realise
    She truely isn't here?

    In all the stories I've read
    They had a happy end
    In the story that is me
    It broke and will not mend
    In the stories and the fairytales,
    Love was never lost or died...

    My heart which has no happy end
    Says the fairytales...lied.

    BTW, thanks LuvEwan. :) And everyone else too!

    f_o_w - haunting - and beautiful. You have a lovely gift for capturing the emotions of a shattered heart.

    Hope to be posting more work soon, but have had little chance to compose verse; too much work - and not enough me! I need a clone.

    I've got part of a new Ani poem and a few interesting ideas, but it's proving quite hard to finish...

    Like GW, I cannot tell a lie. It was red - once upon a time - but I haven't seen its natural color in so many years, I don't have clue what's under there.

    An Ani poem, huh? Well, since nobody gets into Ani's head better than you, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
