I once met a girl wearing a t-shirt that had a picture of a frog on it with "Frog?" beneath it. When I asked why she turned around and on the back was a picture of a crown with the word "Prince!". We talked and clicked like we never had with any other.
A few days later at her work she received a rose with a card that read:

In all my years I've never been
so happy to be small and green.
In all my years I've never had
a princess at my lily pad.
But here I sit and here you stand
a shiny object in your hand
and from my view down here I see:
that little crown belongs to me.

A little kiss, and crown my head
you'll find no frog, but a prince instead.
A prince who wants no other thing
than to take your hand and serve the King.
Have I misread you? Shed no tears
this pond is full enough as it is.
So here I sit, to wait and see
what a princess does with a frog like me.

So say what you like, but she's now my wife :D

Almost two years after that, on our wedding day, she was getting dressed when the lilies arrived with the sequel:

In all my years I never thought
I'd stand here in the royal court
A lovely princess by my side
who now consents to be my bride.
But here I stand and so do you,
    today becoming one from two
and as we kneel before the King
I'd like to tell you just one thing.

I'd like to serve Him, you and I
together till the day we die.
It will be fun, it will be rough
but God, we know, provides enough.
I'll search no longer, for I've found
    my lovelyNess to be around
And as i wear your crown, you see:
I told you it belonged to me.

I agree with you, Jenna. How beautiful :)

This piece is a favourite of mine, I didn't write it, but I don't think that matters does it? It's by Tennyson

    Ulysses

It little profits that an idle king,
By this hearth, among these barren crags,
Matched with an agèd wife, I mete and drole
Unequal laws unto a savage race,
That hoard, and sleep, and feed, and know not me.
I cannot rest from travel; I will drink
Life to the lees. All times I have enjoyed
Greatly, have suffered greatly, both with those
That loved me, and alone; on shore, and when
Through scudding drifts the rainy Hyades
Vext the dim sea. I am become a name
    For always roaming with a hungry heart;
Much have I seen and known, - cities of men
    And manners, climates, councils, governments,
    Myself not the least, but honoured of them all;
And drunk delight of battle with my peers,
Far on the plains of windy Troy.
    I am a part of all that I have met;
Yet all experience is an arch wherethrough
Gleams that untravelled world whose margin fades
For ever and for ever when I move.
How dull it id to pause, to make an end,
To rust unburnished, not to shine in use!
As though to breathe were life! Life piled on life
Were all too little, and of one to me
Little remains; but every hour is saved
    From eternal silence, something more,
A bringer of new things; and vile it were
For some three suns to store and hoard myself,
And this grey spirit yearning for desire
To follow knowledge like a sinking star,
Beyond the utmost bound of human thought.

This is my son, mine own Telemachus,
To whom I leave the sceptre and the isle ?
Well-loved of me, discerning to fulfil
This labour, by slow prudence to make mild
A rugged people, and through soft degrees
Subdue them to the useful and the good.
Most blameless is he, centred in the sphere
Of common duties, decent not to fail
In offices of tenderness, and pay
Meet adoration to my household gods,
When I am gone. He works his work, I mine.

There lies the port; the vessel puffs her sail:
There gloom the dark, broad seas. My mariners,
Souls that have toiled, and wrought, and thought with me ?
That ever with a frolic welcome took
The thunder and the sunshine, and opposed
    Free hearts, free foreheads ? you and I are old;
Old age hath yet his honour and his toil.
Death closes all; but something ere the end,
Some work of noble note, may yet be done,
Not unbecoming men that strove with Gods.
The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks:
The long day wanes; the slow moon climbs; the deep
Moans round with many voices. Come, my friends,
?Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all western stars, until I die.
    It may be that the gulfs will wash us down;
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
    Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

    Kalor - VERY cute. :D

Kieca - That one is awesome, as I said when you sent it to me. I might include an analysis of it in my writing log.

Here's a short one I wrote a week ago or so:

    Two great pillars
    Supporting the Eagle
    As immovable as time

    Two small killers
    Beheading the regal
    Bird with their violent crime

Blood drawn from that which was enduring
Sets in sight a view of new reality
What was once immortal now procuring
A sense of an unnerving new mortality

    Thanks. :)

In my many a-wanderings online, I found one written by Spike Milligan. This isn't the sort of poem most people remember him for. He wrote this one in 1966, in a Psychiatric hospital, apparently. What I like is the questioning in this poem ...

    Me
Born screaming small into this world-
    Living I am.
Occupational therapy twixt birth and death-
    What was I before?
    What will I be next?
    What am I now?
Cruel answer carried in the jesting mind
    of a careless God
I will not bend and grovel
When I die. If He says my sins are myriad
I will ask why He made me so imperfect
And he will say 'My chisels were blunt'
I will say 'Then why did you make so
    many of me'.

    SithGecko,

I love some of Spike Milligan's lesser known stuff... He had moments of sheer and utter brilliance, comic and otherwise...

    Words have dried,
    the ink has been lost,
    I've sat here for days,
    thinking of something to post.

    I twiddle my thumbs,
    and play solitaire again,
and when my eyes scan the screen
    it all sounds the same.

    Meaningless phrases,
    and something about something,
    I'm feeling detached,
    don't want to sing.

So I'll sit in my corner,
    and twiddle some more,
    getting more and more anxious,
for my heart's words to pour,

Because I'm giving up on language,
    and I'm losing the plot,
    I keep trying for intelligence,
    but it's something I'm not.

Well, that wasn't Spike, but I felt like putting it there any ways...

The end, they all lived happily ever after...

A poem about poet's block. I like it.

But intelligent contributions don't always have to be in the form of poetry, anything else is acceptable. :)

I didn't write this, but I really, really like it,

The Beginning is the end is the beginning,

    Send a heartbeat to
The boy that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass
    For now we stand alone

The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood
    The sinner grieves
    With no more to hate

Is it bright where you are?
    Have the people changed?
Does it make you happy you're so strange?

    And in your darkest hour
    My whole secret's fake
We can watch the world devoured in it's hate

    Delivered from the blast
    A lesson learned at last
The pale princess of a palace cracked

    And now the kingdom comes
    Crashing down unknown
And I am master of a nothing place
    Of recoil and race

Is it bright where you are?
    Have the people changed?
Does it make you happy you're so strange?

    And in your darkest hour
    My whole secret's fake
We can watch the world devoured in it's hate

    Time has stopped before us
    The sky cannot ignore us
    No-one can separate us
For we are all that is left

    The echo bounces off me
    The shadow lies beside me
There's no more need to pretend
Cause now I can begin again

Is it bright where you are?
    Have the people changed?
Does it make you happy you're so strange?

    And in your darkest hour
    My whole secret's fake
We can watch the world devoured in it's hate

    Strange
    Strange
    Strange

My first foray into the poetry thread... yoiks.. *bites nails, gets nervous..*

    Ok. :)
Well, this poem here is me. I didn't write it, Lord Byron did (the nutter), but I feel every single word of it.

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more,
From these our interviews, in which I steal
From all I may be, or have been before,
To mingle with the Universe, and feel
What I can ne'er express, yet cannot all conceal.

That poem explains why I stare and the moon and get shivers when I watch clouds. ;)

Long time, poet's corner, no see, but I wanted to put this one in here...

a full moon, full of power
the clar star-filled sky shining down
the sea-water racing in with the tide
crashing in small waves on the granular sand
two dis-robed figures enter the water
ecstatic already with the joy of love and freedom
    she looks to him
the jewels of the night reflect in his eyes
as they both float above the surface
    she whispers to him
    just above the water
    "I love you" she says
"I love you too" comes the answer
    she reaches over
    and kisses him
struggling to remain above the water
    salt and saliva mixing
    as delerium takes control
    bodies dip below the surface
eyes closed, but minds open to wonder
rising once more to take a breath
    eyes open and search souls
    the physicality of it all
    moving to shallower grounds
to join hands, minds, souls and bodies
and dance the dance of love and lust combined
    she kisses him harder
    as the beast takes over
    moonlight flashing silver
    over skin pale and moist
droplets of water running over flesh
    as the rhythm picks up
    the waves of sal water
crash in time to those of bliss
    mountains of enjoyment build up
    only to explode into sighs
fast breathing to regain normality again
    the water still lapping round
    holding each other
as the waves wash away the evidence
    moonbeams lighting the scenery
    as she stands
    takes his hand
and walks with him to deeper water
for the dance to start all over again
and when the morning's light comes
to chase Madam Moon's smiling face
the bright Sun's kiss shall caress
two lover's asleep on the shore of the beach
    entwined in each other's arms.

This looks like a good place for this

    Dreams of a forest
    with a meadow of green
    a packed little feast
    for you and for me
    I hold this thought
as one of which we share
    times will be countless
    sharing this thing
    a picnic in the woods
    or on a city street
    a picnic in your arms
    will keep my life complete
    I cherish the love
    you show me each day
    I treasure your soft touch
when you hold me so close
    now time will allow
    many years of our lives
to share each of these days
    in our special ways

    LET IT REST!
    ~By Monique Nicole Fox~

No use in arguing with those who have no clue
or trying to make them understand your point of view.
    So let it rest!

No use in turning lively discussions into a heated one
or turning road rage into murder with a gun.
    So let it rest!

No use in exchanging hurtful words or insults
or letting your blood pressure skyrocket as a result!
    So let it rest!

No use in stressing yourself out
or walking around mad or in a pout.
    So let it rest!

No use in worrying about what other think about you
    or what they say.
Just continue walking and living in a spiritual way.
    So let it rest!

No use in trying to be what others want you to be
for the only one you have to prove anything to is God the Almighty
    So let it rest!

In God's hands are our problems and pests.
God knows and does what is best.
So in God, let it rest!
