I almost always castle. I can't stand having my king in the open.

    You?

Bah, usually when I try it my opponent goes "WTH is that, you can't do that!"

When I need to, mostly to get out of check (KIDDING!)

I also enjoy the um-pa-saunt (sp? - it kinda sounds like that anyway) rule with pawns.

Pawn of opponent moves past your pawn without taking - you can then move diagonally behind them and take their peice that isn't on that square.

I usually castle if I have the chance.

Pawn en Passant. Never heard of that one myself.

It can only be done on your move immediately after the pawn you're taking has moved forward 2 squares.

The immediate problem with castling of course is that it leaves your king with almost no legal moves and generally with nothing that can intercept.

Several times I have rapidly won a game by having my supported queen take the middle pawn.

No, I tried doing the move, but never really like the results.

Usually that's the case, though what I usually do is move the pawn on the edge of the board out one space in order to give my king an alternate escape route should he be attacked along the back row.

EDIT: Pawn en Passant. Never heard of that one myself.

I've heard of it, but I never use it pretty much because no matter how many times I hear it described, I can never remember what it does when I'm actually playing.

I castle only when it brings me strategic or tactical advantage.
