ST Poll: Do you want the ST more like the OT, the PT or a mix of both?

Here's what I want:

More of the 'real'. More props, more sets, more dirt, more wear and tear, more puppets, more extras. The PT, as advanced as it was back in the day, has a very noticeable sheen that looks like a lot of it came out of the Unreal 3 engine. It hasn't aged well, not in comparison to the OT, IMO.

More humanity. Not in terms of humans over aliens, but in terms of the films' souls. The PT was very distant from things I can identify with. Galactic politics? A prophecy that's never actually told to the viewer? The most important character in the trilogy having a handful of lines in the first movie, with inconsistent characterization after that? No. The ST needs to start and end with the characters, not the plot points.

Related to both, higher stakes. With the exception of TPM, the PT was largely a series of battles between disposable machines and disposable people. Moreover, we're never given any indication of how things are progressing on a larger scale. Empty spectacle does not impress me. I want to be emotionally invested in the battles.

So, I guess that would mostly be a combination of the OT and something new.

I thought so, or at least something very similar, but it must have been locked at some point and is probably archived. At any rate, we can leave this open for now as long as it doesn't turn into an OT vs. PT battle.

I doubt we will see an emphasis on political machinations again. If the old (1980s) rumours still hold true, philosophical issues and shades of grey will come to the forefront. Those concepts, mixed with an OT visual aesthetic (worn out spaceships, lived-in houses and location shooting in exotic places) get myvote.

 

A mix of both would be nice. Like a strong mixed drink on a Saturday night.

OT. Bring that sense of adventure back to the series.

Plus, from what I've seen/heard it sounds like Abrams and co. are going for more of an OT feel.

 

I'd go OT tone and quality, with something new in terms of characters, themes and storylines.

 

Well, i believe it will bring some elements from both trilogies

PT: Very few things, as the ST will take place 60, 70 years later, all of those characters apart from the droids are probably dead by then, probably we'll see Coruscant or Tatooine back, but not much more.

OT: The old gang back, the millennium falcon, probably remnants from the Empire, a couple planets (I'm thinking, Yavin 4 as Jedi Academy? )

ST: New characters, new villains, new planets (Corellia, Dantooine, Ord Mantell?)

This feels overly reductionist.

 

When Abrams says that he wants it to feel ''real'' it doesn't mean he wants it to feel dirty.

 

I want the story plots and tempo of the OT and the quality of the PT. The only new thing I would like is better acting than both!

I want a movie like the OT, very little in the way of lightsaber fighting. I don't want an action movie. I also like the gritty look of the PT.

 

I want a movie that makes me happy. Can I have that?
